The Control Room Operations Dispatcher (Onsite) will:

  • Monitor and operate all hospital audio visual security equipment including closed circuit surveillance cameras, intercoms, security computer systems linked to door and panic alarms throughout the hospital complex, and remote access door systems

  • Provide access control for parents, patients, visitors and employees to neighboring institutions

  • Provide access for ambulance transfers and med flights. Monitoring and providing access to all loading docks and other areas within the complex

  • Monitor all fire alarm systems for the hospital complex & BCH Satellite Properties. Is responsible for activations of internal Code Red drill procedures and dispatching

  • Contact Fire Department through use of direct emergency phone and inform the fire department of current alarm status and location

  • Dispatch security and hospital engineering personnel and contact appropriate hospital personnel to notify them of activity associated with the fire alarm systems. Inputs information through fire alarm keyboard to initiate such actions associated with the fire alarm system

  • Monitor, operate and interpret information relevant to Life Safety and critical care systems within the hospital such as building engineering systems, facility automation systems, life support generators, and medical gas systems

  • Dispatch appropriate engineering personnel to respond to activity associated with engineering equipment systems

  • Assist engineering and contractor personnel in performing drills, testing engineering, and verifying alarms, including not limited to Research clinical research repository freezers, generators, elevator communications, and fire alarm systems

  • Assist in testing security equipment and functionality such as quarterly panic alarm devices, delayed egress alarms, door alarms and emergency intercoms

  • Dispatch requests for assistance to appropriate security, safety, medical or hospital engineering personnel

  • Initiate contact with senior hospital administrators, hospital’s safety departments, and outside agencies such as police, fire, and public works departments, as well as ambulance companies, during situations such as internal and external disasters

  • Generate Engineering Work Orders and Security Reports for all pertinent activity during each shift

  • Operate each shift independently, and is required to make decisions during emergency situations

  • Document and enter maintenance requests and alarms and into Engineering (Facilities) work order system

  • Follow emergency chemical spill response procedures by notifying proper Safety or Radiation safety personnel & coordinate with first responders

  • Monitor multiple radio frequencies simultaneously and must discern priorities

  • Attend any required and annual training, such as Fire Safety and Irradiator response

    To qualify, you must have:

  • A High School Diploma/GED

  • 1 year of Dispatch experience is preferred

  • Knowledge of computers, Data Entry, MS Word, MS Excel

  • The analytical skills to gather and interpret data in situations in which the information or problems are critical and life threatening

  • The ability to exchange information on factual matters, schedule appointments, greet visitors, explain hospital policies and/or relay messages to appropriate personnel

  • Trustworthy and Reliability (T&R) determinations required as dictated by Radiation Safety within 6 months of employment
