Boston University CONTROL DESK TECHNICIAN, Facilities Management & Planning, Materials Admin in BOSTON, Massachusetts

This position is the main hub for all facilities related calls both emergency and non-emergency. This includes after hours, weekends, and holidays. This position is responsible on a 24-hour/7-day basis to receive requests for any facilities related services and then direct and coordinate the various management, trades, and custodial activities. Receives, documents, and dispatches daily trouble calls to appropriate personnel. While operating a computerized dispatch log. Facilities Operations Service Center Dispatchers are tasked with answering phone calls in a professional manner and taking each phone call to its completion. Dispatchers create work orders, use activity logs, properly document and pass along information through email, notify appropriate management staff of serious situation, and place service calls. The Operations & Service Center maintains a 24/7 point of contact for all facilities related activities. Dispatchers receive alarm notifications for a variety of computerized alarm systems for HVAC, electrical, fire alarm, and plumbing systems, directs the appropriate response, and logs all information passing it along to the appropriate people. Responsible for facilities related emergency notifications (Everbidge). Communicate effectively facilities related emergencies with facilities management and the BU community. Receive, asses, and direct the initial response for all facilities related emergencies and incidents.

Required Skills

  • Strong listening and communication skills with ability to take initiative, manage complicated situations, and communicate information.

  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills with ability to problem solve.

  • Must be able to work independently and within a team.
