Boston Globe Media Partners Audience Engagement Editor in Boston, Massachusetts

Job Description :

The Audience Engagement Editor is a versatile journalist who works to drive audience growth and engagement for Globe Opinion across multiple platforms. This editor will collaborate with our journalists to identify and elevate our highest-impact work, connecting with our existing subscribers and working to attract new audiences. 

A successful candidate will be just as comfortable with headline writing as they are crafting social videos for our op-eds and columns. This person should excel using metrics and data to inform their approach on social platforms, and they should be able to effectively identify how to best promote Opinion pieces to drive engagement, foster conversation, and influence the discourse in Boston and beyond. In this role, the assistant editor will report directly to the digital editor and assist in overall strategic planning of digital initiatives. 

Responsibilities :

  • Create, optimize, and publish native content, including short-form video, to Globe Opinion’s social media accounts

  • Write accurate and engaging copy for our social channels, website, and newsletters, using a unique voice that elevates our journalism

  • Collaborate with the newsroom’s audience engagement team to cross-promote our best work through push alerts, emails, and homepage placement

  • Craft unique illustrations for key Opinion pieces using AI digital image manipulation software

  • Research and experiment with emerging platforms and styles of content

  • Assist the digital editor in developing and fine tuning Globe Opinion’s digital strategy

    Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field

  • 2-4 years of relevant work experience in content creation and social media management

  • A track record of successful, audience-focused journalism

  • Deep knowledge of social platforms like Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and X, and how each can be leveraged to drive traffic and engage users

  • Experience with analytics and scheduling tools like SocialFlow, Chartbeat, Adobe Omniture, and MailChimp

  • Ability to produce and edit engaging photo, video, and audio content

  • A willingness to adapt and be audience focused, with a curious mindset and a commitment to creating an inclusive work environment 

    The BGMP office is located in downtown Boston, near Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market, and is easily accessible by MBTA and commuter rail lines. This position is based in Boston, and candidates should be based in the area or willing to move.

    This position is a union position covered by a collective bargaining agreement with the Boston Newspaper Guild.
