BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: The Bureau of Public Health is seeking a motivated individual to fill a Marine Resource Specialist II position in Boothbay Harbor. This position assists in classification of shellfish harvesting areas in western Maine according to the State of Maine Regulations, the National Shellfish Sanitation Program, and the Food and Drug Administration. Specific duties include completing regular data collection for pollution source and seawater samples by boat and truck; developing protocols, training and leading field shoreline survey data collection to identify pollution sources including door to door interviews with homeowners; overseeing all shoreline survey data entry QAQC; maintaining all ArcGIS pollution source layers and associated databases for the shoreline survey; and participate in data compilation and required report writing for shellfish growing areas. This position is the primary individual responsible for Access database and GIS needs for the Bureau of Public Health. Other duties include field equipment operation, calibration and maintenance. The position requires interacting with municipal officials and the general public. Work is performed under general supervision.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES PREFERRED: Knowledge of ArcGIS, Microsoft Access, and boat operator experience is preferred.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Five (5) years experience and/or education in the compilation and summarization of scientific field and laboratory data to include a minimum of one year of experience in natural resource science, management, technology, laboratory, or field work.
