The IT Services Division of the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare seeks a talented and experiencedLinux Server Administrator (Infrastructure Engineer Ill)to contribute to a dynamic team of innovators. TheLinux Server Administratorprovides leadership in the design, development, implementation, qualification, support, and operation of complex integrated system solutions. This position requires expert level technical support on Linux system administration and requires technical skills in planning, design and maintenance of critical enterprise server infrastructure and application delivery infrastructure.

This position requires residency in Idaho. If relocating to Idaho, the Department of Health & Welfare does not reimburse the cost of relocating. The department does not sponsor anyone with a work visa.

    EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

  • Provides hand-on Linux System administration on a large production environment.

  • Deploys and supports virtual Linux servers.

  • Develops automations for server and application deployments.

  • Troubleshoots Linux server availability and application delivery issues and finds root cause of issues.

  • Configures automations for server deployments and application delivery.

  • Participates in design, and contributes to technical insights and ideas.

  • Anticipates implementation obstacles and develops plans to address them.

  • Analyzes cross-technology and cross-platform issues.

  • Provides input into technology plan for the organization and ensures that plans are integrated effectively and other aspects of the technical infrastructure.

  • May provide consulting services to project teams on areas of expertise.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Considerable knowledge of current information technology trends and capabilities.Typically gained by a Bachelor's degree directly related to information technologyORat least four years of full time work experience in information technology.

  • Experience installing, maintaining, troubleshooting network, server, or storage systems.Typically gained by at least four years of full time work experience where these duties were part of your primary job responsibilities.

  • Experience resolving network or server problems.Typically gained by at least four years of full time work experience (within the last five years) where this was part of your primary job responsibilities.

  • Experience working with end users to develop and implement information technology solutions for user computing needs in a business environment.Typically gained by at least four years of full time work experience interviewing and consulting with clients/users to develop and implement solutions to meet computing requirements in a business environment.

  • Experience as a technical lead implementing or supporting network, server or storage systems.Typically gained by at least four years of full time job experience where this was part of your primary job responsibilities.

    Below is preferred experience. It is not required for the position but applicants with this experience may receive consideration over other applicants.

**1-5 are typically met by at least three years experience within the last six years.

  • Experience in Linux system administration in an enterprise level environment.

  • Experience scripting in Bash, Python or similar scripting languages.

  • Experience developing automations using tools such as Puppet, Ansible or similar IT automation tools.

  • Experience installing/managing Linux virtual servers in a VMWare environment.

  • Good knowledge of application delivery infrastructure including load balancers.
