Position Description
Job Summary
What’s the job?
Reports directly to the Production Manager.
Has latitude for non-reviewed actions and the exercise of independent judgment and discretion within established policies and procedures.
Ensures all processes meet applicable financial Internal Control guidelines for inventory controls
Ensures that team is operating within all legal, compliance and applicable contractual policies and procedures
Responsibility for improving Health & Safety standards in the mill, including: scheduling risk assessments and related actions, actively promoting behavioral safety processes, Health and Safety audits, safety standard assessment, incident investigation and follow up.
Responsibility, in partnership with the Quality department, for product recycle and rock product quality and ensuring appropriate checks are in place; implementation of quality procedures; product identification and classification; investigation into complaints and subsequent actions
Responsibility for ensuring environmental controls, audits and checks are in place and adhered to, and incident investigation and follow up.
Oversees rock deliveries and works with Warehouse Manager on maintaining accurate inventories of Rock and Recycle
Foster a high-performance team environment through engagement, buy-in and contribution by:
Models company Vision, Mission and Values and ensure employee’s model the same.
Champions Organizational Health with employees, including; Implementation of company standard methods (5 Dysfunctions model, conflict resolution tools, etc) to all employees
Communicating and managing team performance against identified targets and objectives
Recruitment of new team members using robust selection processes
Identification and development of key skills and behaviors within the team against defined job/skills matrices
Ensures the overall training & development of employees, including; Regular and ongoing assessment of employee skills and performance to ensure current and developmental needs are addressed, using company standard methods (skill matrix gap analysis, training with TWI, development & succession plans)
On-going coaching and development of individual team members
Performance reviews with team members (formal and informal)
Manage daily operational mill controls
Oversee plant recycle production, working directly with maintenance and engineering for equipment issues and improvements
Report major personnel issues and grievances to Production Manager
Drive Focused Improvement projects and activities on your line in line with site objectives and the annual plan, and any identified ‘pillar initiatives’
Implement and manage EWO/QK process, including human error analysis (HERCA), attacking losses within the plant and strive to eliminate human error
Ensure improvement and integration of standard training procedures and materials (SOP, Job Instruction), including EHS, to drive consistent performance
Use and promote use of the correct WCM Tools
Manage the development of the SCADA process
Identify mill losses through the collection, stratification and analysis of data to facilitate and contribute to the cost deployment process
Assist with the identification of improvement projects
Assist with the development of the mill strategic plan to attack identified losses
Required Qualifications
What do you bring?
Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, science, industrial management or similar discipline, or five (5) years of equivalent training and experience that provides a comprehensive working knowledge of the laws, regulations, practices and procedures of a lean/world class manufacturing operation may be substituted for a degree.
Six to eight (6-8) years of applied professional experience working in production in an industrial / manufacturing environment.
Three to four (3-4) years of direct or indirect supervisory experience. (Preferred supervisory experience in an union environment.)
Familiarity with Lean / World Class principles and practices. · Ability to provide leadership and innovation at all levels of the organization utilizing differing styles of management; from directive, to coaching and support, through delegative, as the situation arises.
Project Management skills.
Change management skills.
Strong influencer with conflict management skills.
