Columbia County Prison Full and Part Time Corrections Officers (Male and Female) in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania

Corrections Officers needed to perform the care, custody and control of inmates at the county prison. 

Under direction, supervises inmates on assigned shift, enforce rules and regulations to ensure personal safety and that of staff and inmates; prevent escapes, maintain order and discipline and escort inmates to and from their cells. This work is distinguished by the severity of consequences in the error and the on-going threat to personal safety. 

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

Observe inmates, monitor behavior during block-out, yard-out, visits, meals, and prison activities, communicate established limits for behavior and consequences, and enforce rules of conduct and security, prepare written report or verbal reports of significant violations or irregularities to relief officer and shift supervisor. 

Inspect cells, dormitories, yard, work locations, and other assigned areas within the facility for unauthorized objects or materials: check sanitary conditions, fire and safety hazards. 

Certify commitment transfer or discharge documents, evaluate and screen inmate, conduct body search, store or return personal belongings. Notify shift supervisor of special circumstances with inmates. 

Assist in adverting riots and escapes; assist in physically suppressing aggressive acts undertaken by prisoners in accordance with established policy. 

Distribute cleaning and sanitation supplies, personal laundry and bedding for inmates. 

Assist in the distribution of medication. 

Complete forms and update records to insure ongoing documentation of operation 

Receive incoming telephone calls respond to request(s) for information in a professional and intelligent manner, provide basic information as required. 

May serve as shift supervisor in the absence of a Sergeant or Corporal; insure work assignments are completed in accordance with policy, train new employees; intervene and direct staff in a crisis situation, in accordance with procedure. 

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age 

  • Have a H.S. diploma or GED 

  • 3 years of experience working in a correctional facility

  • May not have any felony convictions 

  • Must be available to work all three shifts 

Wage

Full time: $19.09 / hour  Part time: $19.09 / hour

Shift

Will be discussed with the employer. Must be available to work nights, weekends and holidays.
