About this role

This position is a key technical resource for the global sales and service teams and is responsible for promoting the proper application of Det-Tronics specialty detection products, and system solutions with primary focus on systems. Working in conjunction with sales, field service, customer service, project teams, engineering and marketing, the Application Engineer is a key technical advisor and product advocate who identifies and helps implement solutions in pursuit of customer satisfaction and company goals in all stages of the sales cycle. The Application Engineer must be able to establish and maintain effective relationships with all stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assists in the definition, development and implementation of systems product application solutions globally as defined by customer and code requirements

  • Resolves technical product and application issues for customers - consistent with the company mission, values, and financial objectives

  • Provides pre-sales support to customers and sales teams

  • Assists in the design and development of new products and sales tools

  • Maintains relationships with industry stakeholders and supports conferences and trade shows

  • Creates reports and trip summaries in support of projects and proposals

  • Performs technical / product training for salespeople and customers

  • Travels as needed to assist project teams with on-site commissioning and testing

Basic Qualifications

  • 2 year degree or certification from a technical school

  • 2+ years of experience in technical product support

  • Valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • Good technical aptitude in process automation or safety systems and their integration

  • Experience with implementing process automation or safety systems

  • Technical aptitude in communications protocols (Modbus, Ethernet, and HART) and their application

  • Comfortable with a lexicon of DCS, PAC, PLC, SIS, DI, DO, AI, IEC, and 61508

  • Proven organizational skills with demonstrated ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks

  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with key stakeholders to influence others in a diverse and dynamic work environment

  • Good written and verbal communications skills

  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with customers worldwide

  • Forward thinker who actively seeks opportunities and proposes solutions

  • Ability to travel, including on short notice
