JOB SUMMARY The Network Engineer role focuses on designing, implementing, and maintaining the company's Wide Area Network (WAN) and Local Area Network (LAN). Responsibilities include configuring and managing network hardware and software, collaborating with diverse vendors to ensure network connectivity/performance and manage their services, overseeing contracted managed service providers, and implementing network management tools/scripts to monitor performance and automate tasks. Proactive troubleshooting and continuous learning are crucial to the success of this role. This position implements or manages technologies including Palo Alto firewall, VPN and SD-WAN, Cisco Meraki wireless, Cisco ISE and DNA as well as SolarWinds Orion in a small team. The Network Engineer works in a small team of 4 infrastructure staff responsible for all of the organization infrastructure including network, server, storage, UCaaS and beyond. This position acts as a backup in the execution of moderate Windows Server, Microsoft 365 and VMware vSphere administration duties. A successful network engineer in this role must be a self-starter and team player in equal measure. It's key that this individual be driven toward continuous improvement and learning. Organization and planning in an environment where demand for services exceeds our capacity and we must both tackle daily operations and build a more sustainable future. This position is hybrid working on-site in Bloomington at least 2 days week and at other locations as needed. This position is not eligible for sponsorship. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Network Design, Planning and Implementation: - Participate in network design and expansion projects including making informed and fully reasoned recommendations to management -Analyze network needs and recommend solutions -Deploy new data and voice network technology, leading implementation and coordinating with other IT staff - Create and maintain network documentation (diagrams, policies) - Create, document and test disaster recovery procedures Network Maintenance - Analyzes, troubleshoots, isolates and corrects network and security problems on a 24x 7x 365 basis either remotely and/or on-site. - Configure and maintain network monitoring and alerting systems/solutions - Manage wireless networks and access points. Performance Optimization: - Asses network performance metrics and identify bottlenecks - Implement performance tuning techniques to optimize network efficiency - Design and implement Quality of Service (QoS) policies - Stay up-to-date on network performance best practices Automation and Scripting: - Automate routine network tasks using scripting languages - Develop and implement network automation tools and scripts - Integrate network automation with other IT systems Security and Compliance: - Implement and enforce network security policies and procedures - Configure and manage firewalls, VPNs, and intrusion detection systems (IDS) - Stay informed of evolving network security threats and vulnerabilities - Remediate security audits and penetration testing results Additional Responsibilities: - Maintain UPS and PDUs on location - Participate in the change approval process including creating and executing change requests - Stay up-to-date on emerging network technologies and trends
