QUERCUS LAND STEWARDSHIP SERVICES Conservation Crew Leader in BLACK EARTH, Wisconsin

JOB REQUIREMENTS: The Land Stewardship Crew Leader, located in Black Earth and/or Deforest, Wisconsin, will lead and conduct natural area stewardship work on properties throughout southwest and south-central Wisconsin. Restoration activities through the spring and summer months include prescribed burning, invasive weed treatments (hand-pulling, herbicide application, mowing) and installing native trees, shrubs, and plants. Preform land stewardship work at solar fields and/or other energy company properties throughout Southwest WI, Eastern IA, and Northwest IL. In the fall and winter months restoration activities focus on invasive brush and tree removal. Crew Leader - Prescribed Burns Duties: Organize and direct the activities of a squad of 2 to 5 Prescribed Burn Technicians, under direction of Burn Leader, to execute prescribed burns in grasslands, wetlands, woodlands, savanna, and other habitat types. Able to perform ignition and suppression duties, along with being able to use fire equipment, pumper units, drive ATV/UTV\'s, etc. Able to walk for long periods of time up to 9+ hours daily on different landscapes (moderate to extreme slopes, wet footing, uneven and rocky footing, etc), be exposed to smoky environments, able to carry 45lbs of water in a back-can for long periods of time, and communicate effectively with team members using chain of command system through in person and over the radio communications Crew Leader - Invasive Species Control Duties Able to walk for long periods of time up to 7-8 hours daily carrying a 25 lb backpack with herbicide on different landscapes (moderate to extreme slopes, wet footing, uneven and rocky terrain, etc). Organize and direct the activities of a crew of 2 to 5 Invasive Species Control Technicians to treat target species in specified treatment areas. Apply herbicides by broadcast spray application with ATV boom sprayer Crew Leader - Tree and brush removal Duties Organize and direct the activities of a squad of 2 to 5 Tree and Brush Removal Technicians to cut, process, and dispose of trees and brush according to job specifications. Able to walk for long periods of time up to 7-8 hours daily carrying a \12lb chainsaw on different landscapes (moderate to extreme slopes, wet footing, uneven and rocky footing, etc). Able to repeatedly bend over with 12 lb chainsaw and moving cut material by hand to burn pile (repeatedly bending over, picking up, twisting, dragging, throwing). ***** OTHER EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: Must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma/GED (minimally) Good oral and written English skills required Ability to repeatedly lift up to 50 lbs / pull 75 lbs Ensure the safety of the crew at all times and obtain basic CPR/First Aid Perform strenuous physical labor for extended periods on a daily basis Work outdoors in all weather conditions including extreme heat and cold, rain, snow, full sun Work in difficult environments including rough terrain, wet ground, thick brush, brambles, and insects. Work outdoors daily, often without access to public and private restrooms Foster teamwork, cooperation, and professionalism among crew members. Communicate effectively with clients, the general public, and other Quercus staff. Be proficient in the duties of the Land Stewardship Technician. Organize and direct the activities of a crew of 2 to 5 Land Stewardship Technicians. Obtain job requirements from the Project Manager and communicate them to the crew. Identify job hazards and conduct safety briefings. Develop and carry out a plan for completing the job within the time allowed and with the resources available. Adapt the job plan as necessary in response to changes in job conditions or other factors. Support and work with the crew as needed to complete the job.
