LA Insurance Insurance Accountant in Birmingham, Michigan

The Corporate Accountant oversees and manages the daily operations of the accounting department. Monitoring and analyzing accounting data and producing financial reports or statements. Establishes and enforces proper accounting methods, policies, and principles.

Key Responsibilities • Establishes internal controls and guidelines for accounting transactions. • Oversees preparation of business activity reports. • Oversees the production of periodic financial reports; ensures that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles or financial reporting standards. • Works with the Agency Reconciliation Analysts to develop standardized processes and procedures. • Perform month-end account closing activities and reconciliations. • Perform bank reconciliations for multiple accounts. • Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements. • Assist various departments in accounting issues and queries. • Adhere to standard accounting principles and company procedures. • Works with licensing and external insurance carriers to investigate commissions and sweeps. • Works with Human Resources to ensure proper records and reporting of payroll and employee commissions. • Other general accounting assignments as required.

Key Requirements • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field plus a minimum of 5+ years of accounting experience. • CPA or MBA designation are a plus, but not required. • Working knowledge of pertinent GAAP, state and federal regulations. • Highly proficient in the Microsoft Suite of applications, with an emphasis on Excel. • Experience comparing, analyzing, and summarizing large data sets with V-Lookups and Pivot tables, and filtering them with conditional and nested If/then statements is preferred. • The ability to clearly communicate operational tasks with various personnel is required. Must demonstrate proficient writing skills and must be effective in engaging with our employees to listen to their feedback and resolve their concerns. • Experience in Sage Intacct or other professional accounting/ERP software and Fixed Assets CS is a plus. • Must have excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and be deadline-oriented. • Superb analytical and research skills required. • Ability to collaborate with a multi-department team. • Ability to act and operate independently with minimal daily direction from CFO to accomplish objectives. • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
