Hoar Construction VDC Engineer in Birmingham, Alabama

The Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) Engineer is an integral part of the VDC team. This role is responsible for working with the VDC managers to assist the design and trade partner coordination process. This role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a strong proficiency in visualizing the constructability of various projects. In this role you may be required to travel up to 15% of the time.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Support one to three VDC deliverables at a time under close supervision

  • Translate 2D drawings and specs into a complete 3D/4D Models

  • Stay informed on other BIM related software and how they work with the various VDC software

  • Support the pre-construction process by producing and adjusting models as required for constructability reviews, quantity take-offs, project scheduling, and cost estimates

  • Support VDC coordination kick-off meeting and subsequent meetings

  • Support project setup for 3D trade coordination, site logistical planning, and 4D sequencing

  • Configuring of project site to host BIM data (if applicable) or other equitable platforms

  • Perform VDC work and support personnel in VDC processes, including assistance with related technical support issues

  • Understand how to develop and maintain project coordination schedules

  • Perform laser scan services for project teams

  • Assist in creation of point layout drawings for total station use on projects

  • Work with laser scan data to verify install or model existing conditions

  • Create virtual mock-ups and other modeling activities

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience in the AEC industry

  • 0-3 years’ experience working a BIM or VDC-related role

  • 0-3 years’ experience in the field of design, engineering, or construction

  • Proficient software knowledge in Autodesk packages (i.e.: Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks, etc.) and other design technology in the AEC industry

  • Experience creating custom Revit families

  • Familiarity with construction concepts, practices, and procedures

  • Possesses strong technical skills and creative problem-solving abilities
