Drawing from a rich tradition in treating psychiatric illness for more than 80 years, Hill Crest remains on the cutting edge of new developments and offers a full continuum of care for inpatient: acute adolescent, and adult. Hill Crest Behavioral Health Services also offers residential treatment for adolescents (ages 12 – 17) from Alabama and other states in need of long-term treatment, due to severe behavioral, emotional and/or family problems.

Hill Crest Behavioral Health is currently seeking an energetic and dynamic professional to join our team as a Teacher. The teacher carries out the professional duties as circumstances may requires and in accordance with Hill Crest Behavioral Health Service and the school’s policies under the direction of the Principal; demonstrates curriculum knowledge, provides instructional services to students, assesses achievement effectively, and takes responsibility for professional development. The Educator provides instructional services to Residential Treatment Center and Group Home patients. Provides consultative services to public/private schools and facilitates the coordination of academic requirements and assignments for children and adolescents as requested.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Creates and manages a caring, supportive, purposeful, and stimulating environment which is conducive to students’ learning.

  • Identifies clear teaching objectives and learning outcomes, with appropriate challenges and high expectations.

  • Maintains good order and discipline among pupils, safeguarding their health and safety.

  • Provides individual instructional services using a variety of methodology for children and adolescents, appropriate to gender, age, and developmental level.

  • Contacts the public/private school for each assigned child or adolescent to get information regarding education level, special education services (if applicable), and to coordinate lesson plans and assignments.

  • Prepares ongoing, weekly lesson plans for assigned students; grades accordingly.

  • Ensures appropriate grade level, curriculum, and subject matter is taught on an individualized basis.

  • Maintains a regular system of monitoring, assessment, record-keeping, and reporting of children’s progress.

  • Is familiar with the stages of development of the child and the adolescent and adjusts student’s plan of care accordingly.

  • Provides academic/behavioral data for treatment team meetings and attends meetings if requested.

  • Develops and maintains an Individualized Education Plan/504 Plan for each student who qualifies.

  • Maintains accurate and well organized records.

  • Participates in ongoing continuing education activities.

  • Consistently demonstrates competence in day-to-day scheduling of duties by completing tasks on time with little assistance from others as required.

  • Exhibits a positive attitude when dealing with others in day-to day work situations.

    Qualifications

    Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education required; Master’s degree in special education preferred.

  • Teaching certification or eligibility in the State of Alabama is required.

  • Ability to work flexible schedule

  • Assist patients in maintaining required academic standards.

  • Must have experience in behavioral management using a variety of intervention techniques.
