Asset Resilience Manager

JOB SUMMARY: This position is part of the Southern Company Technology Organization (TO) and is responsible for providing leadership and management for the Asset Resilience department. The department is responsible for managing the identification, assessment, and testing of critical technology assets (software and hardware) necessary for the continued operation of Southern Company business critical processes, to ensure resilience during - and recoverability after - any disruptive event. This includes but is broader than Disaster Recovery. Responsibilities include the following:

  • Oversee Southern Company’s Asset Resilience program, which includes processes related to onboarding assets into the program and steady state management of the assets in the program

  • Manage the staff of Asset Resilience Liaisons who operate the Asset Resilience program, and balance workload

  • Work within the Technology Resilience Governance framework to establish and maintain requirements, processes, metrics, documentation, communication materials, tools, and expected outcomes for the program

  • Evaluate program performance metrics to identify bottlenecks and inefficiencies, diagnose and resolve gaps and issues, and continuously improve the program

  • Optimize the program by understanding and balancing risk, cost, complexity, efficiency, and stakeholder needs

  • Act as an escalation point for technical and process questions, concerns and exceptions for requirements related to tiering assignment, architectural capability reviews, and resilience and recovery exercises, including related approvals and documentation

  • Ensure clear and effective communications with all stakeholders of the program, including education and reporting

  • Collaborate with leadership throughout the Technology Organization, Asset Stewards outside the Technology Organization, and those responsible for Business Continuity, Incident Response, Change Management, Asset Management, Enterprise Architecture, Risk Management, Compliance, and Internal Audit

  • Research, understand and lead the organization in evaluating and adopting best practices for increasing resilience and recoverability of technology today and in the future, at all layers of the technology stack

  • Orchestrate the successful recovery of foundational, critical, and essential technology following a catastrophic disaster, and ensure readiness to meet established Recovery Time Objectives and Recovery Point Objectives for such an event

  • Serve in on-call rotation as Critical Situation Escalation Manager

The Asset Resilience leader reports to the Director of Infrastructure Solutions and is responsible for overseeing the work of approximately 3-6 IT professionals (employees and supplemental workforce) across various geographic locations.

  • Consults with business partners on matters related to the use and implementation of processes and technologies.

  • Provides cost-effective management, rationalization and simplification of the company’s processes, technologies, systems and projects.

  • Enforces appropriate IT policies, best practices, processes, systems and technology portfolio and lifecycle management, and program and project management.

  • Assesses the impact of infrastructure changes and quantifies the risk in order to ensure the appropriate business decisions are made.

  • Acts as a student of the business and technology, anticipating future needs and directional shifts in both technology and energy industries.

  • Continuously monitors and evaluates the operating model and supporting organizational design to identify efficiencies and synergies and ensure efficient resource allocation.

  • Creates an organizational budget and manages financial performance.

  • Hires, develops, rewards and retains a highly qualified and diverse team.

  • Creates an environment that fosters accountability, innovation and engagement at all levels.

  • Establishes him/herself as a thought leader and integral part of the Technology Organization leadership team.

Education

  • Bachelor’s in Computer Science or an Engineering field strongly preferred; four (4) years of relevant technical experience is an acceptable substitute.

  • Certifications in business continuity or disaster recovery, such as Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP), are a strong plus but not required.

Experience and Knowledge

  • Eight (8) or more years of experience in the technology field.

  • Proven experience successfully leading teams is required.

  • Prior experience in a management or supervisory position is strongly desired but not required.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of information technology and technology environments, in one or more of the following areas: servers, storage, databases, software development, application integration, enterprise architecture, and/or cybersecurity.

  • Experience working with Business Continuity, Disaster Recovery, or related resilience disciplines is strongly preferred.

  • Understanding of technical considerations to achieve local and geographically dispersed high availability, active/passive and active/active architectures.
