Responsibilities

Dietary Cook - Food Services

Under the supervision of the Food Service Director and/or Food Service Supervisor, prepares, seasons and cooks food for hospital patients, employees, and visitors as well as all other assigned duties.

H ill Crest Behavioral Health is an acute care, 194 bed inpatient psychiatric facility located in Birmingham, AL, providing mental health services for adolescents and adults.

    Qualifications

    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES • High School graduate or G.E.D. preferred• One year experience in quantity food preparation.• Must be able to read, write, make simple calculations and follow written and oral instructions.• Must have formal on-the-job training in food preparation, cooking, estimating quantities of food needs, storage of food supplies, requirements of sanitation and safety in handling food and equipment.• Must have knowledge of kitchen equipment.• Must be familiar with standardized recipes and food products.• Relates to and provides for the need of patients relevant to their age and cultural needs.• Assists in the preparation, setup, and lean up of food for special functions as defined by Food Service Director and/or Food Service Supervisor. • Maintains cooking area in a clean, neat, and orderly manner. • Successful completion of all applicable demonstrational competencies. • Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time • Ability to work long hours; on occasion work outdoors in direct sunlight • Ability to remain continuously alert and focused • Ability to write (completing documentation) • Ability to effectively communication • Ability to see and hear • Ability to detect potential or actual safety hazards (sufficient to detect smoke, chemicals, or other environmental threats) • Ability to taste (food seasoning or textures) • Ability to feel temperatures and textures (slime or grit)

    • Ability to lift or move approximately 50 pounds • Ability to count money and make change • Ability to rotate arms and body for mopping, moving pans, moving boxes, and other items
