As an Assistant Weighmaster at AMERICAN, you will be working with the movement of railcars to optimize transportation efficiency. Your responsibilities encompass a wide array of tasks, including checking and maintaining records on railroad car demurrage, weighing railroad cars, passing invoices and freight bills, and balancing books and keeping records of in-bound and out-bound rail cars transporting materials and finished products.

Assistant Weighmaster Job Duties:

  • Perform clerical duties including answering and relaying telephone messages.
  • Record and dispatch requests for unloading materials or spotting cars
  • Communicate with vendors and railroad personnel
  • Maintain records and files on equipment operation
  • Order railcars via railroad websites, monitor demurrage bills, and generate reports as required

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Must exhibit prior clerical experience performing office tasks such as developing correspondence, producing reports, answering the phone, paying invoices, writing letters, filing, etc.
  2. Must exhibit prior experience in the use of word processing, spreadsheet, and database software such as Word, Excel, etc.
  3. Must exhibit technical knowledge such as receiving, transferring, and issuing raw materials.
  4. Must exhibit the ability to work well under pressure.
  5. Must exhibit the ability to be very accurate and exhibit attention to detail.
  6. Must be available to work all shifts.
  7. Must exhibit an ability to perform basic mathematics skills.
  8. Must exhibit a record of punctuality and good attendance.
  9. Must exhibit the ability to work with confidential information and maintain confidentiality.
  10. Must be physically able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations.
