Guthrie Maintenance Mechanic II - Plant Services - Full Time in Binghamton, New York

Position Summary:

Under the direction of a Supervisor or his/her designees, the Maintenance Mechanic II performs a variety of maintenance and engineering duties including maintaining, repairing, operating, and renovating the Guthrie Medical Office Buildings. Incumbent is guided by a basic knowledge of building trades, carpentry, painting, electrical, plumbing, HVAC and mechanical repairs, plant maintenance methods, techniques and procedures, operation and use of department equipment and supplies.

Education, License & Certification:

High school diploma or equivalent required. Licenses: A valid driver’s license is required for travel to various facilities

Experience:

  1. Two years of trade school required, or five (5) years' comparable related experience.

  2. A demonstrated skill in one trade and basic understanding of other trades acquired through on‐the‐job training.

  3. Must have knowledge of all applicable OSHA standards, i.e., Right‐to‐Know, Lock‐out Tag‐out, ladder safety, and other standards that may apply.

  4. Ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations is required.

  5. The ability to make decisions and meet deadlines is required.

  6. Must be able to read, comprehend, and transmit complicated, detailed instructions in writing and orally for effective interaction with administrative, medical, and supervisory staff, patients, architects, contractors, and vendors.

    Essential Functions:

  7. Must demonstrate skill in operation of (City Harbor) pump plant equipment, boilers. chillers, pumps, steam, hot water, compressed air, controls, medical gases, alarms, lighting, emergency power systems, (City Harbor) pump plant maintenance methods, techniques, procedure, repair, Alerton, Metasys building automation system and use of department equipment and supplies to ensure the comfort and safety of patients, staff and visitors.

  8. Performs a variety of other semi‐skilled and skilled work in various crafts such as carpentry, plumbing, welding, painting, wall repair, flooring repair, electrical work, sheet metal work, masonry, and machinist work.

  9. Cleans, lubricates, services, repairs, installs, and diagnoses malfunction of HVAC equipment, sprinkler and standpipe systems, electrical systems and other plant and specialty equipment.

  10. Constructs, finishes, installs, maintains and repairs equipment, systems and facilities related to any craft or combination of same, using power and hand tools and other necessary equipment in a clean safe operating condition in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations as well as department policy.

  11. Assists in making decisions on all normal and minor repairs and reports major problems to the Manager or Supervisor.

  12. Reads blueprints and models to learn work layout and plans own work layout, making routine computations as needed and attends mandatory in‐services as required.

  13. Plans installations, does layouts, fabricates, recommends material and alternate methods of installation.

  14. Identifies system failures and troubleshoots equipment in detail to restore to operating or contain problem. Works alone to solve problems, and when called upon, can take the lead on a given job with another team member.

  15. Maintains logs, performs rounds, and completes p.m. work orders, tests, and inspections. Makes recommendations for modification or improvement of preventive maintenance systems.

  16. Demonstrates cost effectiveness by proper use and care of equipment; appropriate and prudent use of supplies; accurately recording labor and supply charges and appropriately utilizing available resources.

  17. Perform scheduled cleanings and preventive maintenance on ice machines.

    Other Duties:

  18. Maintains shops, mechanical spaces, patient areas, etc. in a clean safe manner.

  19. Responds to emergencies in the clinic, makes emergency repairs as needed and is part of on-call rotation to provide coverage of all medical facilities.

  20. Maintains clinical buildings as required.

Pay Rate ranges from $19.12 - $29.85 per hour.
