Janitor, level 2

Full Time, Monday - Friday, Daytime hours

Wage: $16.00-17.25/hr

Working under minimal supervision and often independently, theJanitor Level 2is responsible for performing a variety of tasks related to the overall cleanliness of all facilities and all areas inside and outside of the facilities. Within the facilities, areas including offices, conference rooms, bathrooms, activity rooms, training rooms, hallways and any other rooms in the various buildings. Outside of the facilities, areas include cleanliness of grounds, sidewalks and entrance ways. The Janitor Level 2 may need to travel between more than one facility throughout the day in order to complete assigned tasks.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Takes responsibility for ensuring all facilities are clean at all times. Is personally responsible for monitoring and cleaning all areas within the facility.

  • Requires the ability to be flexible in assigned work locations(s) and work hours including afterhours/evenings/weekends in order to meet the Agency’s needs.

  • Performs cleaning duties, which include but are not limited to: dusting, damp wiping, vacuuming, sweeping and moping, stripping and waxing, and any other floor clean-up activity.

  • Cleans all windows (inside & outside).

  • Changes light bulbs as necessary.

  • In lavatories: regularly checks and/or dispenses: soap, towels, tissues, as well as sweeps, and mops floors and cleans all surface areas to ensure safe/clean environment for employees and consumers. Unclogs toilets and sinks.

  • Empties trash receptacles from all areas throughout the buildings and all lavatory areas.

  • Sweeps / Rakes / shovels outside entrances and walkways.

  • Assists with inventory management of janitorial and other cleaning supplies.

  • Assists maintenance personal with minor maintenance task as needed and/or as assigned. (ie: grounds debris cleanup, painting walls, tack down torn rug/tile, and vegetation trimming/clearing to ensure safety etc.).

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

  • Self-motivated individual with an attention to details.

  • Must have independent travel ability in order to traverse to/from various facilities as required to fulfill the needs within the work schedule.

  • Ability to lift heavy materials/equipment with a minimum of 50 pounds. Position is physically demanding requiring the need to work both indoors and in outside environments. Completes tasks that include heavy lifting, bending, climbing, reaching and repetitive motion.

  • Ability to work off elevated surfaces or ladders.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl throughout the day.

  • In the absence of direct supervision, consistently demonstrates the ability to coach and assist junior level staff in their duties to maintain the appearance of all facilities. At times, may be called upon to lead and direct a crew to complete a task/project from start to finish.

  • Demonstrates an intermediate level of competency in common floor care machinery, cleaning supplies, and hand tools. Uses knowledge and experience to provide instructions to junior level staff on the proper use and care of the equipment.

  • Demonstrates an intermediate level of competency in floor care. Uses knowledge and experience to provide instructions to junior level staff for the proper methods used to strip and wax VCT flooring.

  • Responsible for following any/all agency health and safety policies, procedures, guidelines and rules.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • 5 or more years of experience working in the field of janitorial care preferred

  • A valid New York State Driver’s License and a good driving record that meets the guidelines of the agency’s insurance carrier
