Guthrie Coder-IP- Corporate HIM-Full Time in Binghamton, New York

Position Summary: Responsible for accurate and compliant assigning of ICD‐10 diagnosis, PCS procedure codes correctly assigning POA to the diagnosis. In addition, correct and Compliant assigning of CPT procedure code, modifiers, and appropriate assignments of DRG’s/ APC’s. Coding staff will abide by the standards of ethical coding as set forth by American Health Information Management association. May work as a hybrid module.

Education, License & Cert: A minimum High school Education. Preferably with post High school courses in anatomy/ physiology and medical terminology Associates or bachelor’s in health information Preferred. Graduate of an approved certified coding program required or equivalent experience. Certification requirements: CCS/CPC. The candidate must have at least 5 years or more of recent inpatient medical coding experience or short procedure and be certified. for new graduates, RHIT or RHIA Certifications earned within one year of employment. Large Facility Experience, Trauma experience, teaching facility experience. Experience with coding orthopedics, cardiology, and neurology. Thorough knowledge of ICD 10 CM and CPT coding principles and rules, Coding Clinic Guidelines and Coding Compliance. Current Continuing Education Credits. Productive and Accurate. Working knowledge of disease processes, MS‐DRG and APC classification and reimbursement structures, applicable coding edits and general knowledge of Local Coverage Decisions as it relates to coding and billing. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Experience with encoder technology, computerized abstracting systems, and electronic medical record systems. Ability to work independently Microsoft Office proficient a MUST, especially Excel.

Experience: Computer experience, knowledge of laboratory values and medications preferred. Minimum of one‐year experience coding in an acute care facility HIM department is desirable.

Essential Functions: Accurately and completely assigns ICD‐10 diagnosis and procedure (PCS) codes as applicable for Inpatient visits for the facility Maintain at least a 95% accuracy rate at all times. Maintain productivity standards, tracking and deadlines Maintain and complete accurate productivity and tracking logs. Keep all equipment updated and active on the internet. Comply with established facility policies and procedures Accurately and completely assigns CPT‐4 codes Including modifiers to applicable short procedure and outpatient visits for the facility. As necessary reviews medical records for possible code changes as identified by payor and Fiscal intermediary audits. Audit the discharge disposition for accuracy Maintain knowledge of reviews to coding/classification system. Keeps abreast of AHA coding guidelines and reimbursement reporting requirements Works with support staff on documentation issues for core measures Provides coding education upon request Assist’s with quality review and compliance audits for the coding area. Must attend and complete all educational requirements for Guthrie Learn and AHIMA/ AAPC. The coding staff will collaborate with the chart analysts concerning cases that are missing documentation or need clarification for compliant coding

Other Duties: Adheres to all department and organizational policies and procedures Exhibits initiative in performing all the above duties. Assist coworkers and strives to be a productive member of the HIM department and the Guthrie organization. Demonstrates willingness to accept projects as requested to meet the HIM goals

The pay for this position ranges from$23.06-$35.00 per/hr.
