CITY OF BILLINGS VEHICLE SERVICE TECHNICIAN in BILLINGS, Montana

Under general supervision, performs a variety of semi-skilled work involved in the servicing, repair, and maintenance of automobiles, buses, trucks, and other motor driven equipment and vehicles. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: - Services automobiles, buses, trucks and other motor driver equipment and vehicles with fuel, oil, and lubricants. - Washes and steam cleans vehicles. - Repairs and changes tires. - Checks equipment and automotive batteries, coolants, and lubricants. - Moves vehicles and equipment from place to place, test drives and transfers vehicles, as required. - Observes and reports defective parts or operation of equipment serviced. - Provides road service and towing. - Performs minor welding duties. - Completes basic forms of services performed including work orders, mileage sheets, parts, and service books. - Sweeps and cleans garage, and performs snow removal. - Provides assistance and information to co-workers. - Maintains written records of repair and servicing of vehicles and equipment. - Travels to different work sites to perform maintenance duties. - Handles firearms and personal equipment for removal and security from police vehicles. - Performs facility security and lock up at end of work shift. Required Qualifications and Skills: - Minimum of one (1) year of specialized training beyond high school in the auto and truck repair and maintenance trades. - Minimum of two (2) years of related experience, or equivalent. - A valid Montana Class B Type 2 commercial driver's license with air brake endorsement or must be obtained within ninety (90) days of employment. - Must be forklift certified or must be obtained within thirty (30) days of employment. - Must provide own tools adequate to perform duties. - Must be available to respond to emergency callback, as necessary. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 1:30 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. Salary: $19.0970 - $23.1826 per hour. Salary reflects Step 2 and Step 6 of a 7-step pay scale.
