Billings School District 2 is seeking a Social Studies English Language Learners (ELL) Teacher - Grades 6-12 for the Billings Multilingual Academy at Lincoln Center (Middle and High School). Salary Range: DOE Based on Current Teacher Salary Matrix Schedule: Full-time - 187 days over 10 months aligned to the school district calendar - end of August to mid-June. Additional days during the Summer of 2024 will be contracted in order to get this new charter school ready in time for the 2024-2025 school year. Summary: We are seeking a dedicated and passionate English Language Learners (ELL) Teacher with expertise in social studies instruction for middle and high school levels at the newly approved charter school - The Billings Multilingual Academy. Interested educators will have an opportunity to help design, develop, and inaugurate this new charter school the summer of 2024. The ideal candidate will be committed to providing high-quality instruction and support to students who are learning English as an additional language, particularly in the context of social studies during the 2024-2025 school year. The ELL Teacher will collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement effective instructional strategies tailored to meet the diverse needs of English Language Learners in social studies. This position offers an exciting opportunity to make a significant impact on the academic and linguistic development of students from diverse cultural backgrounds within the realm of social studies education. Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in Social Studies Education with a valid, or eligible for, Montana teaching license for Broadfield Social Studies Grades 5-12 (Master's degree preferred but not required). - Additional credentials in TESOL, Linguistics, ESL, Bilingual Education, or a related field. - Experience working with English Language Learners in a middle or high school educational setting, with a focus on science instruction. - Knowledge of second language acquisition theories and models, best practices in language teaching, and cultural competency as they relate to science education. - Strong instructional planning and classroom management skills, particularly in the context of science instruction. - Ability to differentiate science instruction to meet the diverse needs of English Language Learners from newcomers to emergent and long-term ELs. - Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills. - Commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive teaching practices within the context of science education. - Fluency in a second language (preferred). - Experience with instructional technology and digital resources for science instruction and language learning (preferred). Duties: - Design and deliver engaging and differentiated social studies instruction. - Develop and implement individualized learning plans for ELL students. - Provide language and social studies content support to ELL students. - Assess students' language proficiency and mathematical understanding. - Collaborate with other teachers, administrators, and support staff. - Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment. - Communicate effectively with students, families, and stakeholders. - Participate in professional development opportunities. - Stay current with research and trends in second language acquisition, culturally responsive teaching, and educational technology. - Collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement school-wide initiatives. Additional Knowledge of and Skill in: - Communicating effectively in English, both verbally and in writing (e.g., correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation). - Operating standard office equipment as well as computer programs and applications. - Family community resources. - Developing record and tracking systems.
