CITY OF BILLINGS LIBRARIAN - REFERENCE in BILLINGS, Montana

The City of Billings Reference Librarian performs a variety of professional librarian duties in support of library services and programs including in the areas of technical services, children's services, circulation services, outreach services, reference, and technology support and training. Salary: $25.5337 - $28.1609 per hour. Salary reflects Step 1 and Step 3 of a 7-step pay scale. Salary at hiring will be dependent upon the applicant's education, experience, and training. Work Schedule: Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday 8:15 a.m. - 5:15 p.m., Wednesday 11:15 a.m. - 8:15 p.m., with an occasional Friday night. Duties: - Exercises technical and functional guidance, training, and supervision over lower level staff and volunteers. - Oversees Library operations in the absence of Library managers. - Reviews, selects, and orders Library materials. - Manages the Library's collection of print, audiovisual and digital materials. - Assists in the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs and services. - Performs circulation duties using a computerized circulation system and bibliographic utility. - Maintains public and staff areas of the Library. - Processes requests for interlibrary loans. - Maintains and continually updates knowledge of new and existing library materials and resources. - Actively participates in updating websites and social media platforms for the Library. - Produces digital promotional materials for publications, websites, social media and other distribution. - Participates on a variety of committees, boards, and task forces. - Initiates communications with patrons to determine needs for assistance. - Instructs patrons and staff in the use of the Library and its resources and equipment. - Refers Library patrons to community organizations and other alternate resources not within the Library. - Maintains local community contacts. - Schedules and conducts orientation tours of the library for groups and individuals. - Responds to and resolves inquiries and complaints. - Performs a variety of public relations duties. - Develops age appropriate or targets audience educational and promotional programs, and delivers programs to target audiences. - Provides instruction to patrons in the use of Library and online resources, and computer software and hardware. - Provide in-depth information at the Reference Desk using authoritative resources to research and answer inquiries. - Develop digital archive of historical documents, including selection, digitization, development of metadata, and online uploads. - Supervise and coordinate planning and implementation of teen programming. - Staff all public services in substitute capacity in the absence of other staff. Required Qualifications/Skills: - Master's degree in Library Science or a related field; OR - Bachelor's degree with specialized certification in the library or related field and more than one year of experience; AND - Strong interpersonal skills. - Requires a broad knowledge of all services.
