As a valued member of our Dining Services team, the Cook plays a crucial role in assisting with meal preparation and ensuring that our residents receive delicious and satisfying meals. With your culinary expertise and attention to detail, you\'ll contribute to creating a dining experience that enhances our residents\' quality of life.

Core Duties and Departmental Expectations:

  • Adhere to St. Andr policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
  • Assist in emergencies and maintain confidentiality.
  • Meet and exceed St. Andr standards for hospitality and services.
  • Demonstrate sensitive communication skills and maintain confidentiality.
  • Organize and complete tasks effectively.
  • Report changes in resident behavior or unusual circumstances promptly.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with event and meal planning to ensure smooth operations.
  • Prepare menu items according to St. Andr Health Care standard recipes, focusing on Flavor, Appearance, Taste, and Texture (FATT).
  • Adhere to all sanitation protocols and regulations, including HACCP principles.
  • Maintain kitchen equipment in good working order and report any issues promptly.
  • Assist with inventory procedures and food orders, ensuring proper storage and rotation.
  • Supervise kitchen staff members as needed to maintain service excellence.
  • Ensure food is prepared, held, and served at the prescribed temperature.
  • Record food temperatures and follow proper storage and rotation protocols.

Qualifications:

  • Understanding of the rights and needs of older adults.
  • Clear communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. and perform physical tasks as required.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • One year of experience in cooking or formal training in a dining or elder care environment.
  • Good time management skills.

Language Skills:

  • Effective communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to interact sensitively with coworkers and residents.

Reasoning/Judgment Ability:

  • Ability to think clearly and respond appropriately to residents\' needs.
  • Patience and understanding of the individual needs of residents and staff.
