Job Description:

IBCLC required, 1-2 years experience preferred

Lactation Consultant Service Registered Nurses who are International Board Certified Lactation Consultants provide specialized breastfeeding support for inpatients seven days a week.

  • The breastfeeding initiation rate on the postpartum unit is eighty-four percent.

  • Referrals are made by nursing staff, physicians, and certified nurse midwives for patients experiencing difficulty with breastfeeding and for all breastfeeding patients in the Special Care Nursery.

  • In addition, the lactation service includes a Breastfeeding Center where the lactation consultant provides mother/infant breastfeeding assessment, education and support on an outpatient basis. Patients can schedule an appointment during the hours of operation. Breast pumps and additional breastfeeding merchandise are available for purchase or on a rental basis as a convenience to mothers. Individual need assessment may be employed to provide equipment for qualifying patients.

  • Qualified candidates will be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing and a current Massachusetts Registered Nurse licenser. BSN preferred, BCLS required.
