Job Description

Position Title: Student Intern - Vehicle Maintenance (Summer 2025)

Position Purpose:

This temporary position’s primary job responsibility will be to assist Vehicle Maintenance Technicians with repairing plant mobile equipment in the company's vehicle maintenance area.

Essential Functions:

  • Assist with repair and maintenance of plant vehicles and mobile equipment

  • Preventive maintenance along with repairs on vehicles and mobile equipment. Both electrical and mechanical issues. General shop mechanic work on gas and diesel automobiles, manlifts, forklifts, dump trucks.

  • Repairing tires, brakes, windows, doors, heating and cooling systems, drive trains. oil changes, etc.

  • Assist with other company functions, such as DGC Family Night.

Qualifications:

  • Enrolled as a full-time student in a mechanical maintenance program or recently completed a mechanical maintenance program.

  • At least 18 years of age.

  • A minimum of a 2.5 grade point average (GPA) is preferred.

  • A valid driver’s license.

  • Resume and unofficial transcript required.

Typical Physical/Mental/Environmental Demands:

Requires continuous walking; frequent standing, bending, stooping, climbing stairs and ladders, kneeling, lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, reaching above and below shoulder level; and occasional sitting, crawling, lifting 50 pounds from knee to shoulder high, pushing and pulling up to 60 pounds. Requires continuous use of tools and occasional turning of valves and use of foot controls. Requires grip strength of 45 pounds. The majority of the incumbent’s shift is spent indoors. Occasionally requires working at heights from 10 to 100 feet and in high climbing areas on grating, ladders, scaffolding, and other areas requiring use of safety equipment. Continuously exposed to noise; frequently exposed to dirt, dust, fumes, chemicals, and extreme heat and cold, and occasionally exposed to vibration, poor ventilation, and confined areas. Incumbent is required to wear dust masks, respirators and full face Scott Air Paks when necessary. May occasionally be required to work rotating shifts. Requires good finger dexterity, good binocular vision, good color vision and hearing, and ability to speak. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle. Must have the ability to perform close accurate work, communicate effectively with others, present information in a clear, concise manner and follow verbal and written instructions.

Wage: $28 per hour
