St. Luke's University Health Network Certified Surgical Technician, Operating Room (Full Time Weekend Days) in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania

The Weekend Certified Surgical Technician handles the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure. He/she has an understanding of the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Demonstrates ability to prepare for surgical procedures including confirming supplies, equipment and appropriate instrumentation.

  • Prepares sterile tables with efficiency and accuracy in an organized and consistent manner including ensuring instruments are in safe working condition.

  • Follows OR safety practices maintaining a safe environment for patients and supporting safe patient outcomes including surgical counts.

  • Demonstrates participation of surgical team duties from turnover between cases to daily operational assignments.

  • Demonstrates ability to use knowledge of procedures to anticipate needs of the surgical team from draping to closure.

  • Maintains highest standard of sterile technique and attentive to members of the team.

  • Handles surgical specimens in safe, appropriate manner per appropriate handling policies.

  • Demonstrates ability to follows appropriate process for handling surgical instruments/drills/equipment in appropriate manner.

  • Works collaboratively with RN and members of the surgical team to meet highest level of compliance in quality metrics and successful patient outcomes.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of ethical care, patients rights and supports culture of safety through verbalization of safety concerns.

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

Sit up to 1 hour per day. Stand for up to 8 hours per day; possibly 6 hours at a time. Walk up to 8-10 hours per day; up to 2 hours at a time. Continuously required to use manual dexterity for handling and twisting/turning. Consistently lift and carry objects up to 10 lbs; frequently lift and carry objects up to 25 lbs.; frequently push objects up to 100+ lbs (i.e. camera carts, microphones, storage carts, etc). Frequently stoop and bend. Frequently reach above shoulder level. Must have the ability to move and respond quickly. Must be able to hear as it realtes to normal conversation, high and low frequencies. Must be able to see as it relates to general, near, far, color and peripheral vision. Depth perception necessary. Ability to tolerate visual monotony.

EDUCATION:

High School Graduate who has completed a certified Surgical Technologist program and passed a Surgical Technologist Certification Exam.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Planned for 4-6 week orientation to surgical suite by Clinical Specialist, on-going inservice programs and on-the-job experiences with individual preceptors. Customized orientation for all surgical specialty areas.
