Consumer Product Safety Commission SUPERVISORY COMPLIANCE OFFICER in Bethesda, Maryland

Summary Join the team! This position is located in the Headquarters Office of the Consumer Product Safety Commission, Every U. S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) employee is proud to be a part of a team that works together to assure that the products you use every day are safe. Responsibilities This position is located in the Office of Compliance (EXC), Division of Regulatory Enforcement (CRE). The Division is responsible for assessing consumer products' compliance to mandatory standards and conducting compliance and enforcement actions to ensure products that fail to meet those standards are not permitted to enter U.S. commerce and/or are recalled. We work with manufacturers, importers, consumer advocates, and other federal regulatory bodies, in pursuing our mission of ensuring consumer products meet minimum safety requirements. We also provide advice and guidance on the requirements of various federal product regulations. As a supervisor in CRE, you will be responsible for managing and leading a team of employees who examine and assess product compliance with various regulatory standards and assess the risk to consumers when products do not meet those standards. Your responsibilities include: Establishing priorities and assigning work to your team members; Supervising employees in completing high quality work in a timely manner that is consistent with established processes; Ensuring strategies are well-developed and implemented effectively, and significant matters requiring management review are elevated; Developing procedures and policies to promote efficiency; Supervising negotiations with companies and the development of corrective action plans, directly participating in more difficult cases; Developing and overseeing regulatory compliance programs to assess product and industry compliance with existing or new/modified regulatory requirements; Working collaboratively with staff in other CPSC offices to promote the agency's mission; Developing and implementing strategies to address industry-wide product safety problems; Supervising regulatory development activities and dissemination of technical and legal guidance; Collaborating with other management officials to allocate resources needed to support the Division's activities; Requirements Conditions of Employment U.S. Citizenship Required. Qualifications All applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Qualifying specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) designing, developing, analyzing, managing and/or implementing a regulatory or international trade compliance program; 2) advising and updating management officials on the status of regulatory or international trade compliance issues; and 3) leading complex cases or projects. Evidence of the above specialized experience must be supported by detailed documentation of duties performed in positions held. Education This position does not have a mandatory education requirement. There is no substitution for specialized experience at this grade level.
