Job Duties

The patient observer provides one to one, constant and direct observation of patients with suicidal ideation. Provides constant and direct observation of patients who are at risk of causing harm to self and/or others. Assists assigned staff (RNs and/or PCTs) to meet the comfort and hygiene needs of the patient by providing assistance with care services such as toileting activities, ambulation, position changes, hair care, and feeding. Maintains direct patient observation during all patient activities, including but not limited to toileting and transportation.

Takes vital signs as needed, while maintaining direct patient observation.

Schedule : Registry/PRN - 12 HR Shifts

Location: MacNeal Hospital, Berwyn IL

The role you will contribute to:

  • Chronic Diagnosis/Intensive Treatment Unit:

o This unit provides ample opportunity to strengthen de-escalation skills and provides a robust understanding of precipitating factors for mental illness and the effects of institutionalization.

  • Geriatric Unit

o This unit provides care for behavioral health patients with depressive disorders, bipolar or schizophrenia in conjunction with aging and/or multiple other comorbidities.

General Inpatient Psychiatric Units:

o This unit provides trauma informed care in a supportive environment to help individuals struggling with major depressive disorder, anxiety, alcohol or substance detoxification, and postpartum depression

Minimum Education:

Required: High School Diploma

Preferred: High School Diploma plus training acquired through work experience or education

Specify Degree(s): Completion of a Nursing Assistant program, Curre

Specify Degree(s): Completion of a Nursing Assistant Program; EMT Program; OR Current

enrollment in nursing school or medical school Residency: CNA, EMT, Nursing Student or Medical Student

Minimum Experience :

Preferred: 1-2 years of previous job-related experience

Required:

CPR/BLS (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) AHA – BLS Version
