Description:

The Assistant Nurse Manager of Behavior Health at MacNeal Hospital is a registered professional nurse, conversant with the nursing process, who has accountability when the nurse manager is not present during the assistant nurse manager’s shift. The Assistant Nurse Manager will support the nurse manager in developing long term planning, human and fiscal resources in a designated patient care area. Compliance with all regulatory groups to ensure safe, ethical and quality patient/family centered-care is required. The Assistant Nurse Manager promotes MAGIS behavior within the organization and patient care area; and supports various health system-sponsored programs. Recognizes, promotes and consistently applies knowledge being a Magnet Facility

What you will do:

  • Operationalize the organization’s mission, philosophy, operating principles, model of care, and strategic plans/goals. Participates in developing,implementing and evaluating the annual department goals and objectives in alignment with the mission, philosophy,operating principles, model of care and strategic plans/goals. Ensure ongoing compliance with accreditation, regulatory, and professional standards impacting the clinical area.

  • Ensure staff knowledge and participation in quality improvement activities, including but not limited to The Joint Commission’score measure projects, National Patient Safety Goals initiatives, and NDNQI goals; evidenced-based projects and research activities (as delegated by the manager). Participates in the bi-annual review of all unit-specific policies/procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and evidenced based practice. Communicates current professional nursing standards that reflect standards of care for specific patient populations.

  • Participates in house-wide quality and safety indicators and evidenced-based projects, and establishes unit specific quality indicators. Establishes unit based evidenced-based projects/research projects as appropriate. Utilize the patient safety communication system, identify opportunities for improvement and lead/participate in initiativesto improve quality and safety. Demonstrateimprovement in the quality and safety of patient care through an interdisciplinary unit based committee/mechanism, which monitors the effectiveness/appropriateness and outcomes of patient care.

  • Ensure qualified staff to meet patient/family care needs. Participates in recruiting,interviewing and selecting staff in collaboration with the nurse manager, Human Resources, staff and the multidisciplinary team as appropriate. Develop and maintain staffing guidelines. Ensure accuracy and timeliness of patient classification data or other primary workload statistics.

  • Provide educational opportunities for staff related to age-specific and developmentally appropriate patient care.

  • Provides care as needed by the unit. Promoting the nursing process, by ensuring clinical competence and service orientation of staff through effective and diverse teams.

  • Collaborate with nursing education to provide comprehensive unit-specific orientation programs and yearly competency training.

  • Facilitate/support opportunities for continuing education including: in-services, seminars, conferences, and national certification. Utilize interdisciplinary resources for staff development. Communicate and ensure compliance with Medical center and unit policies. Provide timely and constructive feedback related to all aspects of performance. Conduct coaching and counseling for performance improvement and succession planning.

  • Ensure that operations, systems and processes are streamlined to provide seamless, ethical, efficient delivery of patient/family centered care.

What's required:

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing

  • 3-5 years of previous job-related experience.

  • Team Lead or Charge Nurse experience, minimally 1-2 years of experience.

  • Current Registered Nurse License State of Illinois

  • CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation)

  • Specialty certification in a clinical or functional area of nursing granted by a national nursing organization is preferred required in 12months of hire.

  • Ability to articulate the scope of practice and appropriate delegation of nursing tasks per the Illinois State Nurse Practice Act.
