Description

Are you looking for the opportunity to work on cutting edge technologies used by hundred of millions of people every day? The Amazon Deals team is looking for a Software Development Engineer to work on our worldwide feature that helps Amazon customers find great deals on great products.

We are passionate about building well-designed, robust and scalable software to deliver inspiring user experiences that delight our customers. We offer the opportunity to work as part of a team of experienced Amazon engineers in the multi-cultural environment of the Amazon Development Center in Berlin.

As a Software Development Engineer, your responsibilities range from reviewing product requirements and designing the software architecture that fulfills them, to translating the requirements to engineering tasks and implementing them. Together with frontend engineers you will be responsible for delivering production-ready code that will be used by hundreds of millions of Amazon customers. Together with the frontend engineers, the UX designers and the product team, you will own end-to-end the customer experience of Amazon Deals. As a software development engineer on the Amazon Deals team, you will have a huge impact on the way customers, including friends and family, experience Amazon daily.

Key job responsibilities

• Collaborate with experienced cross-disciplinary Amazonians to conceive, design, and bring to market innovative products and services.

• Design and build innovative technologies in a large distributed computing environment and help lead fundamental changes in the industry.

• Work in an agile environment to deliver high quality software.

A day in the life

We core to the customer experience for High Velocity Events (HVEs) like Black Friday and Cyber Monday, reaching MM of retail customers WW, and helping partner teams to display Deals in experiences they own:

1) We are a key step in the customer journey from a host of different experiences including: Personalized Deals Page, Search, Detail, Homepage, Cart and Checkout pages

2) We are the source of truth for vending deals data with high throughput, low latency and high consistency

3) We engage retail customers to help them to get notified about interesting deals through features like deal alerts.

About the team

We directly communicate to customers by:

1) Providing deals information throughout the customer shopping journey; 2) Owning notifications that let customers know when ASINs they are interested become deals, or when deals they are interested start or become available; 3) Allowing customers to claim high velocity, low inventory deal types.

We enable innovation by decreasing operational load, so the team is a good place for developers to grow and work on new technologies.

Basic Qualifications

  • Experience (non-internship) in professional software development

  • Experience designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems

  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language

  • Knowledge of professional software engineering & best practices for full software development life cycle, including coding standards, software architectures, code reviews, source control management, continuous deployments, testing, and operational excellence

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

  • Experience with full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
