We are offering the significant role as “Preservation Engineer/ Construction Management Support” in the “Construction & Commissioning” function to participate in this energy transition for Central Europe.

The Preservation Engineer/ Construction Management Support shall assure that plant and equipment will remain in good conditions and operable at all stages throughout the project. Additionally you will support the Project Construction Manager in maintainability and constructability.

The position holder reports to the Regional Construction Leader.

Responsibilities

  • Establish a Quality Preservation and cleanliness regime that will provide assurance that plant and equipment will remain in good condition and operable at all stages throughout the project

  • Ensure the Quality Preservation and cleanliness regime is consistently implemented from Supplier Works through Fabrication, Installation, Commissioning and final handover to customer

  • Implement and Maintain a Preservation Records System to demonstrate compliance to the preservation regime and assure integrity of plant and equipment.

  • Provide Technical input and approval for Contractor Preservation manage the process during Commissioning phase

  • Engage with Engineering and Operations & Commissioning to establish expectations and requirements

  • Engage with the engineering team to ensure preservation requirements are clearly identified

  • Take ownership of and develop the preservation philosophy and strategy.

  • Develop suite of preservation checklists, routines and procedures consistent with the preservation philosophy and Strategy

  • Review available databases/systems for monitoring and control of preservation regime, recommend and implement optimal system

  • Review and ensure that preservation requirements are included on Requisitions/Supplier RFQ's etc.

  • Review Supplier documentation and ensure that engineering have confirmed preservation requirements are adequate

  • Ensure that Supplier recommendations are incorporated into preservation procedures and project program.

  • Liaise with Engineering/Vendors/Contractors to determine access and best preservation for all plant & equipment.

  • Ensure Preservation activities are adequately estimated and allowed for within the project integrated plans/Contractors schedules etc.

  • Liaise with Commissioning to ensure that critical preservation is not compromised by commissioning procedures

  • Manage and audit Fabricator Resources to ensure de-preservation/re-preservation is properly implemented and recorded (On receipt at fabrication yard / construction site, On installation, During Commissioning)

  • Manage and control use, storage and safe disposal of preservation chemicals and materials.

  • Identify and manage resources for preservation activities during long term storage/transportation

  • Support the Construction Manager for topics like Site Infrastructure, storage areas and logistics

Skills / Qualifications

  • An appropriate qualification in Electrical Engineering with 5-10 years of work experience would be advantageous but equivalent experience in Preservation Management is also feasible.

  • Have appropriate health and safety experience, training and qualifications in line with international standards for roles of this nature to be able to identify and stop unsafe works.

  • Previous experience of undertaking the role of Preservation Engineer/ Construction Management Support on a large Substation Project. Construction experience in Asia would be an advantage but is not essential.

  • Have previous experience of key elements of the project including, but not limited to the following:

  • High voltage switchgear (up to 400kV)

  • Power transformers

  • Instrument transformers

  • Medium voltage switchgear

  • Reactive compensation equipment

  • Power and control cabling

  • Protection systems

  • SCADA systems

  • Earthing systems

  • Fibre optic cabling and systems

  • Site telecoms systems

  • LV power systems and auxiliary equipment

  • Grid connection interface works

  • Electrical HV safety rules & safe systems of work

  • Civil works associated with the electrical installation

  • Experience with stakeholder liaison

Knowledge

  • ​Possess the knowledge in international standards and 'best practice' in relation to construction

  • Knowledgeable on environmental legislation and good industry practice in relation to construction works

  • Familiar with the key applicable standards and specifications associated with the civil and electrical works construction applicable for countries in the region

  • Interpersonal and leadership skills

  • Ability to be proactive and recommend and approve corrective actions if required

  • Will be required to travel frequently across the region and Asia to various project sites

  • Ability to work remotely but integrate with the GE’s wider team

  • Ability to communicate effectively, and to accurately and concisely report both verbally and in writing. Proficiency in English mandatory, German desirable.
