Amazon Engineering Project Manager, TD Deployment Readiness in Berlin, Germany

Description

Amazon is seeking an experienced and business oriented Engineering Project Manager to lead and execute the deployment readiness activities (product, deployment and operations) for new automation technologies for the continued expansion of our fulfillment network. Technologies include, but are not limited to, mobility robots, manipulation robots, robotics storage solutions and automated packaging and sortation products.

Successful candidates will have Program and Project Management experience in a technical environment, preferably related to automation technology development and installation. They led and have contributed to hardware product deployments utilizing and implementing scalable installation processes. The individual will manage a cross-functional group of stakeholders and customers - from deployment, safety and technical support teams to Amazon Operations - and lead efforts to define and validate product, installation and operational requirements for new technologies to successfully deploy at large scale.

Engineering Project Manager in Deployment Readiness will support the Technical Program Managers in the same team to define an installation process and related KPI (cost, time, resources, skill) for new technologies and track and improve those against initial baseline.

The Engineering Project Manager will also be responsible for managing critical path and milestones along with product development phase exit criteria and help other teams deliver network capacity on time as per defined baseline KPI. They will drive and invent and simplify strategy, will have high work capacity while being detailed oriented and agile to manage business changes and keep driving the initiatives. Successful Engineering Project Managers in DR will be interfacing with and driving various functional teams and individuals at all levels of the organization in order to be successful. They ultimately hand over a complete deployment package to their main customers Robotics Deployment and Operations.

There is also a requirement to travel extensively (50%) to locations in Europe and occasionally to international sites (USA), depending on the product development location and timeline.

This job can be located in Berlin, Luxembourg or London.

Key job responsibilities

Support the Technical Program Managers in Deployment Readiness and operate as main contact for downstream customer Robotics Deployment.

Drive continuous improvements to deployment packages and manage changes align with technology improvements.

Manage cross-functional partners (Deployment, Safety, Operations, ...), deliver as per critical milestones and handover a complete "deployment readiness" package (e.g. design and bill of material, work instructions, compliance, manuals, specifications, installation requirements, ...) to Robotics Deployment teams.

Identify and evaluate continuous improvement opportunities to increase install efficiency and deployment cost on product level. Continuously validate deliverables as part of Alpha and Beta installation activities.

Create, validate and successfully deliver KPIs and deployment strategies for new technologies to support large-scale installations globally.

A day in the life

Work hand in hand with Technical Program Manager DR to successfully build a deployment package for new technologies. Create all relevant deliverables and successfully hand them over to Robotics Deployment. Work with Operations, Safety and Maintenance on regional level to identify requirements and deployment standard.

Drive and support continuous improvements to known technologies and validate deployment readiness risks for upcoming deployments based on checklists. Own and drive completion of mitigation actions as central contact for all stakeholders.

About the team

Deployment Readiness is part of the Tech Deployment organization and responsible to define, maintain and execute the framework to certify new technologies as "ready to be deployed at scale".

The diverse team is spread across Europe to support product owners and deployment teams globally.

The team connects product developers, deployment teams and operational customers to successfully install new robotics solutions at lowest cost and impact on Operations.

A mix of different nationalities, age, culture, experience and technical background covers all aspects of Robotics installations and acts as expert to assess, validate and define deployment readiness.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, other technical field, or equivalent practical experience

  • Project management experience in a large organization, working on feasibility, design and deployment in a global environment

  • Experience leading a project team and engineering contractors in an operational environment

  • Ability to provide large-scale continuous improvement on deployment efficiency and establishing processes

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to lead teams, of both internal and external cross-functional partners, without direct management authority

  • Comfortable shifting between direct detailed analysis and big picture thinking

  • Comfortable presenting to and facilitating decisions among senior leaders based on evolving priorities

  • Problem solver with excellent verbal/written communication skills and the ability to lead cross-functional process improvements

  • Comprehensive understanding of project management tools and operational, reliability & maintenance processes

  • Outstanding influencing skills with the ability to connect the dots at an organizational, strategy and project level
