Whatcom Community College Fiscal Specialist 1 Student Financial/Accounts Receivable in BELLINGHAM, Washington

Whatcom Community College (WCC) invites applications for a Fiscal Specialist 1 (Class code 151E) position focused on receivables in the College's Business Office. This recruitment is open to ALL qualified applicants. WCC intends to hire two Fiscal Specialists from this recruitment process.

The Fiscal Specialist 1 supports members of the Whatcom Community College community with receivables, cashiering and related fiscal activity. Under the direct supervision of Director for Business and Finance, this position is primarily responsible for processing student financial transactions, third party charges and payments as well as all college receivables.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Prepares, audits, verifies and processes third party sponsorship for tuition, fees, books, etc.
  • Processes invoices for facility rentals and other miscellaneous charges.
  • Process, verify, and balance payments; make and maintain reports; prepare daily bank deposits.
  • Follow up with outstanding receivables: communicating and documenting interactions.
  • Performs work functions related to accounting, financial reporting, and other fiscal review and analysis.
  • Consistently follows applicable fiscal guidelines, regulations, principles, and standards to satisfy work responsibilities.
  • Uses computer hardware and software to produce timely and accurate work projects that fully satisfy the demands of assignments.
  • Provides customer service to internal and external customers, listening attentively, identifying issues, providing options in order to fulfill services, and/or exercising knowledge of laws and regulations to assist others and/or resolve complaints or conflicts.
  • Assists in the development of fiscal procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to meet the College's needs

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associates degree from an accredited institution or equivalent experience.
  • Two years of accounting/bookkeeping experience in an office environment.
  • Proficient in Accounting Software.
  • Excellent customer service skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • Demonstrates initiative, anticipates problems, and provides creative solutions.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with individuals and groups within as well as outside the organization, orally and in writing.   
  • Actively contributes to a work environment that embraces diversity and uses diverse perspectives to enhance the attainment of organizational goals.
  • Strong work ethic, attention to detail, prompt and courteous.
Salary

Salary and Working Conditions:

  • Range 40, full-time Classified salary starting at $3,376.00 per month with periodic increments to $4,385.00 per month.
  • Position's shift is 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8 am-5pm. Indoor office in a shared work environment. May have extended hours sitting at the workstation. Hours may be flexible during summer quarter. Ability to lift up to 10 pounds.

  • The position comes with a full benefit package, including health, dental, life, long-term disability insurance and a retirement plan. 
  • Accrues 8 hours per month of sick leave and 11.33 hours per month vacation leave with periodic vacation accrual increases based on longevity.
