Amazon Software Development Engineer, Sustainable Packaging in Bellevue, Washington

Description

Amazon's Sustainable Packaging software team delivers technologies that improve customer experience (CX) by reducing packaging waste, lowering our cost to serve and demonstrating Amazon’s commitment to the Climate Pledge. Our products and programs are public facing and provide a unique opportunity to interact with end customers on every order. This role will lead our Decision Engines and Ships in Product Packaging business and software strategy, including incubating new product development opportunities that cross selling-partner, shopping, and fulfillment software systems. You will drive the definition of tech products (software, science, data), bringing teams from across the organization and around the globe together to define, build, and deliver on the programs' vision, improve our store experience for customers, and drive business impact.

We are seeking a software engineer to be part of our team to build solutions on a global scale, own their systems end to end, and influence the direction of technology used by all Amazon Fulfillment and Packaging services around the world. In this role, you will have the opportunity to drive mission critical projects, work with senior and principal engineers, and help mentor junior team members.

Key job responsibilities

This is an early stage initiative with a fast paced, highly collaborative start up like environment inside Amazon. To be successful you need to be flexible and entrepreneurial. You are a true owner - you are hands on and you lead by example. You acquire expertise as needed, iterate and adapt your approach as you learn more. You are deeply interested in pragmatic problem solving as well as taking risks in pioneering brand new areas. You create extendable design and easy to maintain technical solution with the long term vision in mind. You will hold the high bar in software development in our org and lead other experienced developers with revolutionary design and experiments.

A day in the life

Sustainable Packaging team designs and drives the adoption of packaging technologies lower our cost structure, improving customer experience and, as part of the Climate Pledge, reduce our carbon footprint. You will lead the team that works upstream with vendors, sellers, Amazon Private Label and downstream across our outbound packaging suites to drive best in class packaging for efficient fulfillment and waste reduction.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $115,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
