Amazon Software Development Engineer, OSS - VISION in Bellevue, Washington

Description

The Inbound Flow Authority (IFA) team within Supply Chain Optimization Technologies (SCOT) is looking for an experienced Software Development Engineer to innovate on existing and build new technologies that optimize the inbound flow of inventory for Amazon's fulfillment network. SCOT optimizes Amazon’s global supply chain end to end and build systems to deliver billions of products to our customers’ doorsteps faster every year while saving hundreds of millions of dollars using science, machine learning, and scalable distributed software on the Cloud.

Work on answer questions like: How do you increase the throughput under the physical constraints for Fulfilment Centers? Can you build systems that also bring process change on how we receive inventory? How do you keep software generic enough to support differing requirements across businesses and geographies without building custom solutions for everything?

This is a high-impact space packed with challenging problems involving complex systems and very smart people - our systems handle the inbound flow of all orders that are fulfilled by Amazon Fulfilment Centers.

As SDE in the IFA team, you will work with talented peers of SDEs to build a robust engineering platform, develop novel algorithms and modeling techniques to solve high impact challenges. If you are customer obsessed, self-driven, tenacious and analytical individual with a flair for machine learning, you will have fun solving our business problems of unprecedented scale.

Key job responsibilities

SDE II's must first understand how Amazon's supply chain operates end to end. This includes learning from internal Amazon operations as well as external Vendor and Carrier operations. Next, engineers will need to brainstorm and design solutions that drive efficiency improvements within the operational constraints of all our partners. Implementation naturally follows, along with continued iteration on improving our solutions.

A day in the life

Gather and discuss requirements with our product team as well as partner teams in Retail, Transportation, and Fulfillment operations.

Collaborate with other engineers within our team to brainstorm, design, implement, and launch solutions.

About the team

Our team owns the systems that schedule and prioritize all freight entering into Amazon's fulfillment network.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $115,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
