Chewy, Inc. is seeking a Senior Economist at our Bellevue, WA location to build econometric models, conduct statistical analyses, or design experiments to measure the value of the business and its many features incorporating feedback from internal customers, scientists and business leaders. Develop Customer Lifetime Value models. Own the development of economic models and manage the data analysis, modeling, and experimentation necessary to validate your model. Effectively communicate econometric models to business teams and incorporate feedback into project analysis/modeling. Design and develop rigorous models to assess the causal impact of macroeconomic/microeconomic parameters on customers behavior, suppliers network and business performance. Design and conduct experiments to validate theories and improve understanding of Chewy's ecosystem of suppliers and customers. Conduct market analyses (market shares, penetration, competitive analysis, customer profile) leveraging external data sources. Collaborate with product managers, data scientists, and software developers to incorporate models into production processes and influence senior leaders. Independently identify new opportunities for leveraging economic insights and models in Chewy's business. Write technical white papers and business-facing documents to clearly explain complex technical concepts to audiences with diverse business/scientific background. Review and audit modeling processes and results for other scientists, both junior and senior. Lead the project plan from a scientific perspective on small to medium product launches including identifying potential risks, key milestones, and paths to mitigate risks. Set and balance goals across the team to optimize performance against department goals.

Ph.D. degree in Economics, Finance, Quantitative Marketing, or a related field and 2 years of experience. Experience must involve 2 years in a postdoctoral position, consulting, government, industry, or academic research. Experience must also involve the following: writing technical documentation about the models built; writing reports summarizing findings and presenting results to leadership; econometrics concepts (time series models, panel data, high dimensional problems, statistical inference), causal inference in reduced form (synthetic control methods, difference in difference or other experimental design technique), economic theory, and quantitative methods; applying econometric techniques to real business problems; data analysis languages (R or Python); large data sets, big data, and analytics; data querying languages (SQL); balancing research depth and pacing; major data providers and analysis tools; working effectively within an interdisciplinary science team of economists, applied scientists, software engineers, and data engineers.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS: Our salary range for a Senior Economist position is $134,500 to $215,000. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to the candidate's relevant experience, education, and work location. In addition, this position is eligible for 401k and a new hire and annual equity grant.
