Position Summary:

With a silver medal from Golf Digest, recognition from Condé Nast Traveler ("Top Golf Resorts in the World"), and two courses ranked among Michigan's Top 20 Public Courses by Golf Magazine, The Legend, Arnold Palmer's Michigan Masterpiece, is rated #7. As such, we are looking for a professional, goal-minded and ambitious leader to run all aspects of our award-winning Legend Golf Course. This includes budgeting, hiring, training, and scheduling and leading your team in support of Shanty Creek's mission of creating memorable guest experiences. 

Position Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Lead, partner and collaborate with all partners to help set and maintain the highest standards of operations with regards to our Golf Department and The Legend Course.
  • Manage and direct all chemical, fertilizer and water applications, mowing and any agronomic issues that might arise.   
  • Ensure that all staff and teams operate equipment related to the golf department in a safe and efficient manner. (I.e. triplex, riding rotary, top dresser, blowers, fairway mowers, greens triplex, utility vehicles, etc.)
  • Train others in the proper use of pesticides along with the proper sprayer calibrations.
  • Interact with the maintenance teams, relaying any & all changes in the general performance of the equipment being operated.
  • Ensure that you and your team perform, on a daily basis, the normal general maintenance on all equipment in operation, which includes the checking of all fluid levels. (I.e. oils, greases, hydraulics fluids, leaking hoses, loose belts, etc.) 
  • Work closely with all of the managers in their daily observations of the property to maintain the highest standards in alignment with Shanty Creek Resort and The Legend Course.
  • Purchase, apply and maintain accurate records regarding fertilization and chemical applications.
  • Report all issues and concerns about course operations to the DOO in a timely manner.

Professional Experience:

A minimum of 3 to 5 years of professional experience in turf management as an assistant golf course superintendent or 2 to 3 years as a golf course superintendent is required.

Education:

A minimum of an Associate's Degree from an accredited college or technical school 2-year in turf management or related discipline is preferred. 

Required Skills:

Must have a valid U.S. driver's license.

Must have a working knowledge of scheduling irrigation installation, repair, and pump maintenance; and controller trouble shooting.

Experience leading and running an 18-hole resort golf course, independently of direct supervision (i.e. course setup, trap raking, greens & tee mowing, fairways & rough mowing, cup changing and tee placement, irrigation/drainage repair and installation along with other related maintenance tasks).

Knowledge of agronomics to properly maintain a golf course.

Ability to identify most local disease and insect problems. 

Basic experience in budgeting and forecasting.
