Team/Role Overview

We are responsible for providing legal guidance and documentation negotiation to the whole of the Markets Business across multiple Product types and Business Desks. The Team covers a broad range of Documentation facilitating trading for multiple financial instruments including OTC derivatives, Repurchase and Stock Loan Agreements, and Credit Support documentation across all major asset classes. The Team has a remit to work exclusively on agreement maintenance, updating documentation to comply with the latest industry regulation’s and updating the agreements to facilitate execution of new types of business with existing customers.

This is a seasoned professional role that applies in-depth disciplinary knowledge, contributing to the development of new techniques and the improvement of processes and work-flow for the area. It integrates subject matter and industry expertise and requires in-depth understanding of how areas collectively integrate within the sub-function as well as coordinate and contribute to the objectives of the function and overall business. Evaluates moderately complex and variable issues with substantial potential impact, where development of an approach/taking of an action involves weighing various alternatives and balancing potentially conflicting situations using multiple sources of information.

What you’ll do

  • Support the firm's global derivatives business by providing essential negotiation and contract administration support for the firm's International Swap and Derivatives Association (ISDA) contracts (and associated key trading infrastructure documentation)

  • Responsible for all stages of the contract process from the initial drafting through execution

  • Ensure complex and high volume business negotiations need be conducted in a timely, thorough and efficient manner and compliance with regulatory requirements

  • Consistently follow up with unresponsive customers, maintaining detailed records of the negotiations along with a committed effort to stay abreast of new and changing regulatory and legal issues and industry initiatives

  • Extensively interact with the firm's institutional clients and their internal/external counsel as well as coordination with the firm's trading/sales, legal, credit and tax areas in order to contribute to the development and implementation of process improvements

  • Apply in-depth understanding of how associated risks differ depending on product and documentation envisaged in relevant jurisdiction(s) and provides advice to the Risk function and business partners accordingly

  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.

What we’ll need from you

  • Extensive relevant experience

  • Proven record of completing complex negotiation documentation within very tight time deadlines

  • Comprehensive proficiency in MS Word and Excel

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, grasp of the relevant legal and credit concepts

  • Experience with complex corporate structures including hedge funds, structures involving third party lenders, Special Purpose Vehicles, mutual funds and the like.

  • Detail oriented with excellent written and oral communication skills, good and mature judgment
