Microsoft Corporation Technical Program Manager 2 (AI4Science) in Beijing, China

We are on the cusp of a new frontier in which artificial intelligence is transforming scientific discovery. We seek to drive major advances in sciences with machine learning, with a focus on ‘fifth paradigm (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/research/blog/ai4science-to-empower-the-fifth-paradigm-of-scientific-discovery/) ’ scenarios. Through these advances, we aim to empower real-world impact on some of the most pressing problems facing society including sustainable materials, the discovery of new drugs.

AI4Science is a mission driven global team in Microsoft Research focusing on the opportunity to transform scientific modelling and discovery through large-scale deep learning. We aim to advance this frontier and to drive real-world impact at a global scale. The AI4Science team encompasses multiple disciplines and spans several geographical sites in Europe, Asia, and the US.

We are seeking a passionate and highly motivated technical program manager with experience in relevant fields.

Responsibilities

  • Work with project leads to develop and articulate a clear vision, roadmap and plan of research projects to ensure efficiency, effectiveness, and co-ordination.

  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams across different geographical locations and align with project priorities, requirements and compliance. Foster a culture of collaboration and accountability.

  • Deliver high-impact outcomes to drive thought leadership and make real-world impact.

  • Create and manage key stakeholders relationships, within research, but also more broadly across Microsoft and with external collaborators.

Qualifications

Required

  • Minimum of a master’s degree in science or engineering subject, preferably machine learning, computational chemistry, molecular modelling, scientific simulation, or related discipline.

  • 5+ years technical program management or product development experience collaborating with internal teams, partners and customers delivering one or more projects/services, with exceptional problem solving and conflict resolution skills.

  • 3+ years program management experience in AI techniques & products, as evidenced by prior projects.

  • High proficiency in verbal and written English, ability to interact with diverse groups across multi-geo locations.

  • Experienced at navigating a global, matrixed organization, as well as complex external partnerships. Effective communication skills and ability to influence without authority.

Desirable

  • Industry experience in a research institution.

  • Industry experience in the field of life science, chemistry, large-scale computer simulation.
