Department Summary:
The N143 department is seeking a first line supervisor passionate about staff development, technical expertise, staff management, and delivery of high-quality technical products. N143 seeks a Group Leader that can work effectively with senior staff of the Dept to help drive integration of project work efforts to promote capability convergence and innovation to improve overall mission impact to our sponsors and the DAF. The GL will also take on a broader role in shaping project work and supporting coherence of Cyber across N140 and the Center. The primary members of this group are the Dept Project Leaders and other Step 5 staff for the department.
As a Group Leader this position requires excellent interpersonal skills to effectively supervise, develop, and manage technical staff to drive the Dept’s vision, integration, and convergence goals. In addition, the candidate will help ensure the delivery of quality technical products, staff development and placement, and provide input into the growth of the department work program.
Job responsibilities:
Serve as Direct Supervisor (DS) and provide overall leadership for group members that facilitates the professional and career development of group team members through positive leadership, coaching, and mentoring.
Department and Staff Engagement: Staff mentoring, staff development and recognition; assessing staff performance and providing constructive feedback through regular performance and development conversations
Engagement with department, work leaders, project leaders, and task leaders to obtain performance feedback and to improve staff interactions
Provide timely and regular feedback to staff on performance and goal development
Technical Quality/Execution/Capability Development: Participate as a member of the Department leadership team in workforce crafting, work program development, and maintaining awareness of emerging technical issues and opportunities
Work to drive integration and coherence of project work efforts to improve mission impact
Build and maintain technically proficient staff within the department and division
Skill needs assessment and Department shaping: Participate with Department management team, technical and business leads and project leaders to identify skill gaps, development needs, strategies to evolve staff capabilities, and recruitment/retention of highly qualified staff
Basic Qualifications:
Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree in Cyber, Computer Science, Engineering, Physics; or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 3 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
Cyber Ops experience, knowledge of Agile development, Modeling & Simulation, Zero Trust
Excellent interpersonal, writing, communication, and briefing skills to interact with team members and sponsors
Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with Cyber Defense capabilities, Digital Engineering, DevSecOps, Analytics / Data Science, including one or more of the following languages and/or data visualization tools
Knowledge and application of modeling and simulation and analysis software tools such as AFSIM
Familiarity with advance infrastructure such as Cloud, Hyper Converged Infra, SDWAN, etc.
Knowledge of software development best practices and version control software such as Git.
