Department Summary:
MITRE’s Sensors, Electromagnetics and EW Department—within MITRE Labs’ Electronic Systems and Technologies Innovation Center is a broad and experienced team focused on designing, prototyping, evaluating, testing and fielding disruptive solutions in the following technology areas:
Satellite communications
Sensors (Radar, EO, IR, Hyperspectral, LiDAR)
Antennas
HF sensing and communications
Signal Processing and Algorithm Development
Electronic Warfare (EW)
We are looking for qualified applicants for two Group Leader (GL) positions. Our Group Leaders are members of the department’s leadership team who focus on team development, recruiting, work shaping, career development and expanding our work program into areas that are important to the nation. Our focus is on impactful outcomes which are achieved by staff who have strong and expanding skills, who are strong collaborators, empowered to influence tasking, who are informed by sponsor, department, division and corporate objectives, and have the resources to pursue their project and career goals. As a critical component of our leadership team Group Leaders are essential in helping the staff achieve our organization’s objectives and while achieving their career goals.
Job Description:
Support one or more sensor related projects with responsibility which require the ability to:
Foster and develop innovative, transformational solutions to sensing related challenges and capability gaps for both fielded and developmental systems
Participate in sensor design development, test and evaluation, performance modeling at the system and sub-system level
Participate in data collections, conduct experiments and perform data analyses
Evaluate technologies, identify risks, and develop alternate solutions
Design and prototype sensor algorithms and sensor signal processing solutions
Develop and evaluate sensor requirements for both fielded and developmental systems
As a Direct Supervisor (DS) you will
Work with staff to help define and execute a path to achieve their career objectives.
Provide staff with honest and actionable feedback on their performance, taking into account individual career goals
Prepare and conduct performance management conversations with staff
Help to shape and perform calibration and compensation activities
Help to define, prepare and conduct performance management conversations with staff
Set the strategic direction for the technical focus of a team; investment strategy for resources and capabilities, etc.
Build relationships with other departments/divisions and have substantial customer contact while leveraging in-depth knowledge of customer’s operations/business.
Resource plan (staff, facilities, and equipment), assign staff to tasks with a focus on outcomes and career growth
Support work shaping and proposal development efforts to expand our work program into new areas
Engage in the career and technical growth of others through mentoring, training, and collaboration
Participate in MITRE Labs’ presence in peer-reviewed publications, patent submissions, and external conferences/workshops
Basic Qualifications:
BS in EE, Mathematics or Physics, typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 3 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience
Demonstrated experience in work shaping and technical leadership
Demonstrated experience in mentoring, developing others and providing constructive career feedback
Experience in influencing the outcome of teams beyond one’s individual responsibilities
Strong technical skills related to sensor technologies
Experience in two or more of the following areas: radar design development/evaluation, radar test and evaluation, radar performance modeling at the system and sub-system level
Experience with signal processing and/or algorithm development
Data analysis experience
Demonstrated ability to communicate technical concepts simply and concisely, making needed connections, and bridging across domains as appropriate
Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate clearly in technical terms with both engineering staff and project leadership
Strong writing and briefing skills
Capable of obtaining and maintaining a Secret security clearance
This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site
Preferred Qualifications:
MS or PhD in electrical engineering, math, or physics
Demonstrated experience in prioritizing the nurturing of others
Experience developing/prototyping tracking algorithms
Experience developing/prototyping Electronic Warfare capabilities
Holds a Top Secret/SCI Clearance
