Department Summary:

The Nuclear Enterprise Division (N130) is seeking a bright engineer to make critical contributions in understanding the effects of natural radiation and nuclear events on relevant systems. N130 leads a dynamic work program focused on accelerating the evolution of the United States’ nuclear deterrent capabilities. The Nuclear Enterprise Division provides threat-informed data-driven modernization recommendations, prototypes, and analyses that accelerate the fielding of warfighter capability and allow for the cost-effective modernization of Nuclear Command, Control, and Communications (NC3) and Nuclear Weapon Systems. You will be joining a team with decades of experience in Nuclear Survivability, Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP), and Transient Radiation Effects on Electronics (TREE).

Job Description:

  • Use Modeling and Simulation to analyze nuclear effects on aircraft, spacecraft and communications systems.

  • Conduct essential design evaluations and provide technical assessments on systems survivability by understanding system responses to nuclear events.

  • Utilize home-developed and third-party software/physics code to perform radiation effects analysis.

  • Conduct engineering analyses, design and vulnerability assessments to evaluate the effects of radiation, electromagnetic pulses and/or electromagnetic interference.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 3 years and a Master’s degree in Physics, Engineering, or a related field ; or a PhD with relevant experience who can immediately contribute at this job step; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.

  • Have strong theoretical and practical knowledge of particle physics, solar physics, or nuclear physics

  • Have a strong mathematical and statistical background

  • Have demonstrated written and verbal communication skills

  • Have the willingness to travel up to 20% of the time as needed

  • Have or the ability to get a Top Secret clearance

  • Have experience with modeling and simulation codes, such as SPIET –D, MCNP, CEPXS, IRENE or similar

  • This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Have a PhD in Physics, Engineering, or a related field

  • Have experience in leading technical projects in the area of nuclear physics

  • Have experience with transport problems in atmosphere or within structures

Salary compensation range and midpoint:

$120,000 - $150,000 - $180,000 Annual
