Department Summary:

The occupational nurse is a licensed registered nurse who is responsible for assuring competent, compassionate, individualized, nursing care for MITRE employees. Occupational Health Nurses work closely and collaboratively to explore all issues, to increase employee understanding, insight, and individual motivation. The nurse encourages self-management as an essential part of the employee’s ability to maintain their wellbeing, work functions and capabilities.

The Occupational Health Nurse is an integral part of MITRE’s health, safety, and wellness effort. Clinical nurses ensure employee care is supportive, efficient, effective, timely and meets the cultural, spiritual, and ethnic needs of each employee. Building relationships, reassuring, listening, and talking with employees provides the occupational health nurse with the tools to assess employee strengths, risks, and vulnerabilities in the work environment. Situational evaluation may include information from other relevant sources, maintained in a secure, confidential, and private setting.

Liaising with doctors, social workers and other professionals is a comprehensive occupational clinical nurse approach. With our Employee Assistance counselors, the occupational health team identifies service needs to develop flexible and integrated employee centered care, building upon individual care needs.

Job Description:

  • Shares RN coverage supporting clinic (hours of operation 7:45am to 4:30pm EST).

  • Provide clinical emergency and urgent medical treatment of employee occupation injury or illness.

  • Document electronic clinical records.

  • Performs follow up care/treatment, and injury reporting for occupational injury or illness compliant with Workers’ Compensation and OSHA guidelines.

  • Track injury or illness data electronically in secured database.

  • Assess behavioral health issues and requirements, including facilitation of continued supportive care.

  • Partners with Employee Assistance counselors to collaborate on employee behavioral health care.

  • Coordinates medical exams and reporting of Medical Surveillance results.

  • Partners with the Absence Management team to perform disability case management to ensure employee transitional return to work.

  • Performs an inventory of medical equipment and clinical supplies to confirm expiration, and for the maintenance of adequate supplies.

  • Participates in MITRE Environmental Health, Safety and Security meetings, and partners with EHS to ensure employee safety is a priority.

  • Helps coordinate, promote, and facilitate employee health and wellness programs, partnering with Benefits and Total Rewards.

  • Assists employees in the reasonable accommodation process to ensure compliance with the American with Disability Act (ADA).

  • Complies with MITRE accommodation policy and clinical review protocol.

  • Maintains an understanding of patient confidentiality and HIPAA guidelines pertaining to MITRE directives.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2 years of related experience; or an advanced degree with relevant experience who can immediately contribute at this job step; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.

  • Minimum of 3 years of clinical and/or occupational nursing experience required.

  • Valid MA RN license and in good standing.

  • Current BLS certificate from American Heart Association

  • Proficient in Microsoft applications (word, excel etc.)

  • This position has an on-site requirement of 5 days a week on-site.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Registered professional nurse with bachelor’s degree in nursing.

  • Behavioral health experience
