Department Summary:

The Emerging Systems Engineering Technologies Department is charged with identifying, developing and applying new technologies that can address the Government's most challenging Systems Engineering problems.

MITRE is a choose-your-own-adventure organization, where you'll support a diverse array of projects, collaborating with sponsors from the U.S. government, private sector, and international governments.

Areas of interest include Model Based Engineering (MBSE, MDA, MDD, MDE), Systems of Systems, architecture modeling, analysis of complex systems, and decision support.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Leading Tasks/Projects and teams to accomplish project objectives/address sponsor problems.

  • Translating analysis results into actionable recommendations for the US Government agencies.

  • Mentoring jr engineers, assist in recruiting efforts

  • Modeling architectures of complex systems using standards-based languages (ex. SysML / UML)

  • Evaluating and comparing alternative architectures using qualitative and quantitative techniques.

  • Communicating cost benefit analysis, ROI, analysis of alternatives to Sponsors to enable their educated & informed decisions.

  • Articulating major uncertainties associated with systems architectures, defining risks and opportunities associated with the uncertainties.

  • Supporting requirements management, interface management and architecture change management processes

  • Developing prototypes using Java, Python and related programming languages.

    Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, or related field, 10 + years applicable systems engineering experience with at least 2+ years in a leadership position; or an equivalent combination of related education and work experience .

  • Must be a US citizen capable of obtaining and maintaining a US clearance.

  • Documented ingenuity for applying a set of technical skills across multiple subject matter domains supporting Department of Defense customers.

  • Experience with multi-disciplinary modeling and simulation (physics-level, engineering-level and/or operational-level).

  • Hands-on proficiency with SysML, UML and other modeling tools, as well as Java, Python and related programming languages.

  • Documented success using Cameo / MagicDraw, Doors and similar packages.

  • Solid knowledge of systems architecture and systems design and development.

  • Project-based teamwork experience

  • Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Excel, and Word

  • Must have demonstrated proficiency and strength in verbal, written, PC, presentation, and communications skills.

  • This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in technical field of study

  • Preference given to qualified candidates with current clearance.

  • Track record of leadership in SE innovation, research, and publishing

  • Demonstrated technical management for SE projects that require cross-disciplinary collaboration.

  • Knowledge of Analysis of Alternatives, Verification and Validation, Design of Experiments and data analytics.

  • Experience with Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning in the context of engineering AI/ML systems and/or in the context of utilizing AI/ML to evolve the practice of Systems Engineering.
