Michigan Sugar Company Packaging and Warehouse Mechanic in Bay City, Michigan

Michigan Sugar Company has an immediate full-time opportunity at its Bay City Factory for a Mechanic in the Packaging and Warehouse Department. This position is an hourly position working a variable schedule and is part of the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers, and Grain Millers Local # 263-G.

Job Summary:

The Mechanic will be responsible for maintenance and repair of the packaging warehouse sugar path equipment, production packaging machinery. The employee is expected to follow all GMP/SQF guidelines while continuously maintaining quality and improving production.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Trouble shoot mechanical repairs and perform change overs on packaging equipment
  • Order and track all parts from start to finish while working with the maintenance coordinator and parts cage attendant through email and in person
  • Navigate parts location in parts cage for in stock parts and charge parts out to equipment number
  • Mechanics will also provide support to supervisors, foreman, team leaders and maintenance crews to minimalize downtime and production loss
  • Monitor and repair all inbound & outbound sugar path equipment and perform summer maintenance
  • Respond to radio calls for mechanical repairs while prioritizing importance and reporting any downtime exceeding 20 minutes to supervisor or foreman
  • In timely fashion complete all assigned work orders and find projects to fill your schedule
  • Fill out daily shift change forms of worked performed and information hand off
  • Research and store information on maintenance website and files for future use
  • Measure and determine size and quantity of materials & manage inventories
  • Use various technical tools and measuring devices such as calipers, shiv alignment, temp readers
  • Rigging and lifting equipment and parts multiple floors
  • Understands blue print reading and basic mathematical calculations such as decimal/fractions
  • Repetitive lifting or carrying items up to 40-50 lbs.
  • Repetitive lifting above 50 pounds shall be accomplished with the assistance of another employee or the use of a mechanical lifting device.

Position Qualifications:

  • College certificate or license in maintenance field
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Preferred 3+ years of industrial mechanic work
  • Preferred knowledge of plumbing and compressed air systems
  • Ability to navigate through computers and equipment PLC's to operate machinery
