WestRock Company Maintenance Technician - 2nd/3rd Shift in Battle Creek, Michigan

SUMMARY: The Facilities Maintenance Technician performs work of routine difficulty related to equipment, building maintenance and construction; performs related work as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.   • Performs typical maintenance tasks to support the assembly floor and the entire facility as directed by department manager.

  • Detects and reports defective materials or questionable conditions to the department manager.

  • Maintains work area and respective equipment in a clean and orderly condition and follows prescribed safety regulations.

  • Performs prescribed preventative maintenance on machinery and the building or grounds as directed.

  • Present a professional tone and image at all times to customers and vendors.

  • Responsible for the timely and accurate reporting for all required department documentation.

  • Participate and ensure department is compliant with YUM!/SQF audit regulations.

  • Maintain housekeeping excellence in accordance with Golden Broom Program.

  • Participates in scheduled training classes on site or off site as required.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • High school or technical school education and 3 years of factory related experience in a maintenance environment.

  • General safety, lockout/tagout, HAZMAT, forklift safety, electrostatic discharge awareness, foreign object damage awareness, and quality system awareness.

  • Prior work experience in a manufacturing facility.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS or CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Criminal background and drug screen check required for hire.

  • Forklift License.

TECHNICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES:

  • Must be able to perform but not limited to the following skills: carpentry, plumbing, masonry, electrical (assist the facilities electrician), machine repair, plant layout, painting, and janitorial.

  • Required to be familiar with and use all hand tools and power tools common to the skills listed and be well versed in the disciplines mentioned above.

  • Must be able to read and interpret drawings, sketches, O.E.M. instructions and specifications.

  • Must feel comfortable with working in a team environment consisting of facility team members and outside contractors.

  • Required to use considerable judgment when performing and planning to perform his/her tasks.

  • Ability to effectively manage time.

MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT OPERATING KNOWLEDGE:

  • Operating knowledge of and experience with personal computers and peripherals.

  • Safety Glasses required while performing certain tasks.

  • Exposed to a combination of normal office type environments, and shop floor environments.

  • Regularly exposed to dust, odors, oil, fumes and noise.

  • Operating knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Operating knowledge of and experience with typical office equipment, such as telephones, copier, fax machine, E-mail, etc.
