Prairie Farms Dairy Maintenance Tech in Battle Creek, Michigan

*Job Summary:  *

As Maintenance Technician you will work in cooperation with shift supervisors in the Battle Creek plant and nearby distribution center to ensure all equipment remains operational.

* Essential Duties and Responsibilities*

 

  • Ability to perform mechanical work, valve replacement, conveyor bearing and chain replacement, motor/gearbox replacement, lubrication systems
  • Must possess the skills/knowledge of an Industrial Electrician to read and comprehend electrical schematics to install, troubleshoot, conduct preventative maintenance and perform repairs to facilities and production equipment to 480 Volts, 3-Phase
  • Ability to troubleshoot and re-wire high speed equipment such as AC/DC motors, VFDs, PLCs, PLC I/O modules and servo motors
  • Working knowledge of electrical controls systems, safety circuits, and automation components such as inductive proximity sensors, photo eye sensors, and mechanical limit switches
  • Ability to work off shifts and overtime as necessary
  • Must be able to work in varying temperatures and climates
  • Ability to work independently or with a team to repair and maintain equipment as needed in a fast paced environment during production
  • Practice safe working habits, ability to follow directions, and work with minimal supervision
  • Experience with boiler systems and ammonia refrigeration a plus
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

 

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 3 years' experience in an industrial maintenance related field
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of hydraulics, pneumatics, belt systems, motors, pumps, and other industrial machine components
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment with people of varying skills and backgrounds. 
  • Knowledge of safety policies and procedures is required (e.g. lock out / tag out, high voltage electrical)
  • Working knowledge of and the ability to use hand and power tools
  • Experience in the food industry, is a plus

  • Ability to lift, push, pull product weighing up to 50 pounds out of confined spaces and occasionally having to lift product overhead
  • Ability to stand, kneel climb ladders and other physical requirements as needed
