Overview

The Electrical Apprentice II is responsible for assisting ofinstallations, alterations, additions and/or repairs to electrical systems conductors and associated materials and equipment within the residential, commercial and industrial electrical industry.

Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Assist electricians by performing tasks, material handling under the direct supervision of an assigned electrician installing the work.

  • Employee should keep all materials; tools and equipment in an orderly fashion and maintain a clean work area at all times.

  • Demonstrating safe work habits and proper care of tools and equipment.

  • Clearly understand and comply to Company/Job Safety Requirements (OSHA).

  • Must be able to report to assigned job site location on time as directed.

  • Maintain and properly store tools and equipment.

  • Proper use and safely handle tools, equipment and materials.

  • Accurately organize materials and tools in order to maintain clean and neat work area.

  • Assist in wire pulls.

  • Properly mount and install assigned work, conduit, wires, strapping as directed.

  • Accurately identify colors of wires & conductors.

  • Work from all types of ladders.

  • Perform work at various heights, up to 90’ from ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, cat walks, roofs or other safe work areas.

  • Work in restrictive/tight areas (i.e. switchgear rooms, crawl spaces, utility tunnels, attics, etc.).

  • Must be capable of digging trenches by use of hand tools.

  • Accurately read labels, job site maps/directions, instruction manuals and written instructions.

This position is Full-Time, Non-Exempt, and reports to the Electrical Services Director.

Qualifications

Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications

  • High school diploma or holder of GED or equivalent.

  • Must meet entry criteria for Apprenticeship Schooling.

  • Must be enrolled in 2 nd year approved Apprenticeship Program.

  • Employee must have ability to acquire/maintain personal hand tools as directed.

  • Valid driver’s license and have own transportation. (Note: Public transportation does not always serve most sites.

  • Ability to quickly learn hand conduit bending that will ensure timely installations.

  • Ability to use 2 handed tools/equipment (i.e. cable cutters, hammer drills, compression tools, jack hammers, etc.)

  • Employee must have ability to operate platform lift.

  • Employee must possess ability to understand basic math.

  • Must understand verbal instructions and heed warnings.

  • Ability to work in noisy environments.

  • Ability to remain calm in time of heighten emotional situations.

  • Required to attend Apprenticeship Classes and Functions.

  • Maintain passing grades during semesters in the Apprenticeship Program.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

  • Detail-oriented and willing to tackle various ongoing projects in a fast-paced environment.

  • Versed in the industry and the Company’s competitors.

  • Ability to multitask and perform duties outside of the scope of work when necessary.

Travel Requirements

  • 5-10% of time will be spent traveling to job site(s)/office location.

Physical/Work Environment Requirements

  • Ascending and descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, and/or poles.

  • Climbing stairs.

  • Moving self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces.

  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.

  • Operating machinery and/or power tools.

  • Outdoor elements such as precipitation, heat, cold, and/or wind.

  • Noisy environment.

  • Light to heavy work that includes adjusting and/or moving objects from 20-100 pounds.
