DUTIES INCLUDE: Under the supervision of the Chief Dog Warden, provides animal care by determining animal requirements. Duties include but not limited to conducting interviews, examinations, and diagnostic procedures; taking vital signs and collecting samples; administers medications, drugs, and vaccines as permitted; performs first aid on sick animals, and bandages and wraps wounds. Maintains safe, secure, healthy, and humane environment by sterilizing and wrapping instruments, sanitizing areas, restrains animals during exams and procedures, obtains and verifies medications, verifies shelf life of medications, and complies with legal regulations. Maintains needed supplies and equipment and maintains records. Assists Veterinarians when required. Greets, assist and directs incoming visitors. Receives, processes and routes incoming telephone calls, mail, correspondence, as well as, other material as needed. Retrieves files, researches database and other sources of information and responds to requests for documents and other information as required. Assists the Chief Dog Warden and Deputy Dog Warden(s) in working with organizations and the general public to foster and adopt dogs to minimize euthanasia. Maintains current office operating records including monthly dog statistics. Schedules maintenance of office equipment and coordinates the use of and maintenance of county vehicles. Completes all reports accurately and in a timely manner. Receives messages, provides general information and transmit messages to appropriate personnel. Performs clerical functions and operates office equipment as needed. Assists with ensuring the dog kennel facility is clean and dogs under the control of the Warden are properly fed, exercised and maintained. Assists with volunteer coordination. Works alone or with other persons in short or long-term special assignments/projects to resolve problems or conflicts in any area of county operations or to complete assigned projects. Participates in cross-training and maintains proficiency in areas of cross-training as necessary. New and other related duties as assigned. Reports safety/risk management issues to immediate Supervisor. New and other related duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must have an Associate's Degree, an Ohio Registered Veterinary Technician Certificate, and at least one year of experience in working with dogs and/or working in an animal shelter environment.
