SUMMARY

As a mid-level health professional, the RPA and RRA is an advanced level of the Radiologic Technology profession.

Radiology Practitioner Assistants (RPA) and Registered Radiologist Assistants (RRA) is a health professional certified and registered as a radiographer and is credentialed to provide primary radiology health care with physician supervision. Radiology Practitioner Assistants and Registered Radiologist Assistants are qualified by graduation from an educational program recognized by the Board of Directors of the Certification Board for Radiology Practitioner Assistants (CBRPA) and ARRT. Within the physician/RPA/RRA relationship and under the guidance, supervision and discretion of a licensed physician, Radiology Practitioner Assistants and RRA's exercise autonomy in decision making in the role of a primary care-giver with regard to patient assessment, patient management and in providing a broad range of medical imaging and interventional services.

STATUS: Full-Time

LOCATION: United Memorial Medical Center - Batavia Medical Campus and 127 North Street

DEPARTMENT: Radiology

SCHEDULE: Typically Monday-Friday with the possibility of taking call if requested and available

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Evaluates the day's schedule of procedures with the supervising Radiologist and determines where his/her skills will be best utilized.
  • Obtains informed consent.
  • Take patient histories and perform physical examinations.
  • Evaluates medical images, reviews preliminary reports and images with a supervising physician, and prepares a technical report that will be reviewed and signed off by the supervising Radiologist.
  • Calls reports when requested.
  • Assesses and evaluates the physiologic and psychological responsiveness of patients scheduled for radiology services, as needed.
  • Participates in patient management, including prescriptive powers for acquisition of additional imaging procedures.
  • Administers and/or orders intravenous medications and contrast media, under the supervision of the supervising radiologist
  • Provided initial interpretation of studies.
  • Performs pre-and post-procedure evaluations and post procedure follow-ups.
  • Write discharge summaries and post procedure progress notes.
  • Performs procedures including, but not limited to, the following:
  • Fluoroscopic procedures (static and dynamic); gastrointestinal, chest, localizations, hysterosalpingogram, cystograms, fistulograms, tube/port injections,
  • Swallowing studies, to include modified barium swallows with speech pathology.
  • Ultrasound, CT, MRI guided biopsies, aspirations, needle localizations.
  • Ultrasound, CT or Fluoroscopic drainage and drainage catheter placement and removal.
  • Ultrasound and Mammographic needle localizations.
  • Ultrasound hysterosonograms.
  • Lymphoscintigraphy injections.
  • Stereotactic breast biopsies
  • Arthrograms/arthrocentesis/joint injections prior to diagnostic CT or MRI, and for treatment.
  • IV catheter placement and injection of contrast media.
  • Feeding tube placement
  • Paracentesis
  • Thoracentesis
  • Myelograms and lumbar punctures.
  • Venograms
  • Foley catheter placement.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 5 years of experience as an RPA
  • BS - Advance Practice in Radiology - CBRPA or ARRT
  • Radiology Practitioner Assistant (CBRPA) or Registered Radiologist Assistant (ARRT)
  • Specialist Assistant in Radiology - NYS certified.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: M - Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; Requires frequent walking, standing or squatting.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
  • RT(R) - Registered Radiologic Technologist - New York State Education Department (NYSED)
PAY RANGE: $90,000.00 - $135,000.00

The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for successful applicants. It may be modified in the future. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
